Ok...I need to eat healthier. Two problems: I'm vegetarian. I'm dealing with bulimia.
I'm sick of this illness and I really feel like I'm dying. I want to eat better.
What kind of foods would you suggest for me?
I'm not into all that weird vegetarian cooking. And maybe some light foods that could really improve my health. I really feel like I'm hanging by a string.
What would be good for me?

Many vegetarians have diets that are just as bad as they can be. Quite a few eat no veggies.
Hit the Farmer's Market, it is loaded with wonderful things.
Check out the recipe forum here, I've posted a bunch of vegan and vegetarian recipes and so have so other members.

There's something about going to the Farmers Market (or your own garden) and picking up fresh veggies and fruits, knowing they're not covered in pesticides, and feasting on them.

First it's important to deal with the bulimia. Otherwise, nothing you eat is going to make any difference because you're going to remove it from your body before there's even a chance to absorb the nutrients. Have you considered seeking some therapy for the bulimia?

It's a great sign that you want this to change. If you're going to eat vegetarian, you have to focus on getting enough protein and not just on eating vegetables. For instance, unless you're vegan, you can add in some cheeses with your veggies for a little protein. You can also get yourself some whey protein powder and start making yourself smoothies. This is a great way to add in some fruits and other antioxidants along with your protein.

Peanut Butter is also a good option.

I thoroughly enjoy raw cabbage lightly salted with a slice of some kind of good cheese. Or sugar snap peas with squash and green beans sauted in some olive oil and garlic.

I was supposed to see a specialist a week ago, and they cancel on me. And for some reason, that just really hurt me. So I'd like to think I can solve things on my own. Hopefully it turns out well.
    And thanks for the tips

    Ash

Tell us what you eat daily, breakfast / lunch and dinner...

Did they say why they cancelled? That would hurt if there was no explaination like sorry double booked can we make another time

Are you still living at home? What support do you have?

I know you are asking for foods you may like but the concern to me is within your text of your thread....You need support with this, we are here to start with.

Usually I wake up late, so no breakfast. I'll eat lunch at like 2 pm, usually a sandwich or something. Soup. For dinner it's usually like noodles, or whatever the family is having, just without the meat. Then tons of snacking inbetween, chips and what not. Then throwing up if I feel I ate too much. It just angers me.

I don't blame you, so firstly one of the biggest problems honestly is that you get up late, I want you to set an alarm and force yourself up Once you've been up for an hour you should feel hungy, what's happened is you are not eating until 2pm and starving thereafter, until dinner and then after, you body is wanting healthy foods, and FOOD, so good for you for wanting to give this a go.

Bulimia is nothing to sneeze at does your family know, are they the ones that made an appointment for you that got cancelled? Do not be frightened to ask for help... You need to understand all of this and let someone help you further in getting yourself back on track your like what 16?

I eat eggs anyway I want for breakfast pretty much daily... They are soft, easy to go down, can you start with that, boiled, fried with "little oil", or scrambled with milk only on very low heat... Yoghurt, with a little fruit is also good to start with...

Snacks, start eating nuts, a handful of nuts instead of chips...

Your family do alot of stir fries? This may be a problem, the problem as you take all the meat out, nutrition is there but you can't get full on just a small amount of noodles and veg... Again, you need to talk to Mum and you both need to cook something more for you, even if it's roasted vegetables they are easy, mushrooms are a sorce of meat as well.

Prob as well you are home all day yeah? If you get up late.. So what are your goals, dreams?

Be persistent and keep on scheduling and going back until you see the specialist. This is important.

I am not a vegetarian, but I have read a little bit. You cannot have the same meal as the rest of your family, only with the meat removed and expect to get complete nutrition. The meat is the protein and some of the fat in their meal. Removing it leaves your meal without protein. You have to prepare something with protein to give yourself the protein you need. You will have to change that protein source at different meals to give yourself the full range of proteins unless you combine the right sources to give yourself the full range of proteins such as combining beans and lentils. BTW, I didn't know this until I looked it up, sprouted lentils are a complete protein source.

hi ash. i've been a vegetarian for 4 years now & it has completely changed my lifestyle, in a good way. so congrats on taking the first step towards healthy eating! now you say you're not into vegetarian cooking . . . being a vegetarian does not mean you are stuck eating tofu or raw vegetables for every meal. there are many "meat alternatives" on the market now & they taste great! if you go to the peta website & look up their vegan shopping list, it will provide you with specific brands you can search for at your farmer's market & many of them are available in good old fashioned grocery stores. & the best part is, most of the time they're less than half the fat & calories as real meat and they provide an excellent source of protein. over the years i have fallen in love with stir - fry's . . . but try to include 3 parts veggies to 1 part noodles. that way you still get your fiber (i like anything whole wheat) but you can avoid excess calories. mushrooms are a great alternative to meat & are stocked full with protein (as are unsalted nuts). the best thing to do is try to fit in 5 small meals a day so you don't starve & have the temptation to overeat. i know this might be hard at first because it sounds like a lot of food but it's all about portion control. this will give your body the vitamins it needs, as well as energy so you can excersize to control your weight in a healthy way rather than purging. there is so much great vegetarian food out there, just keep an open mind & try new things. if you have any other questions or are just looking for someone to talk to, feel free to send me a msg hope this helps!
