    Default GNC Vitamin Advice Please!

    Hey guys,

My doctor recently told me I should start a Vitamin Program, but I don't know much about Vitamins. I went into a GNC store the other day and saw their Women's Vitapak. So, I was just wondering what do you guys think about their Vitpaks? Are they priced well? Obviously their sales rep was telling me how great their Vitapaks are, but is there really a difference between all these Vitamins? The sales rep also suggested taking protein... is their advice reliable? Any other thoughts on GNC? (It was my first time in their store.)

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for the help!

Do not believe sales reps. Their job is to make their product sound better than all the rest when in reality there is no difference between products A, B, and C except for the name. You can buy the generic no name brand vitamins at the local Pharmacy in Wal Mart and you will be getting the same level of nutrients as any other double-the-price "special" vitamin like Vitapak. Listen to your doctor, not some sales rep trying to make a quick buck off someone who passes by. Even talking to the pharmacist at the pharmacy you regularly go to will have great information, far better than a sales rep who by the way will have no actual education in the material...they only "know" what their distributor tells them to say.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.

You don't need to go broke on vitamins. IAS is right, go to Walmart or some place like that and get yourself a Womens Multivitamin. I take a Vit C, D, Calcium Magnesium & Zinc, and then take the B Complex under the tongue liquid.

Why don't you call your physician back and ask him/her specifically which vitamins and minerals he/she believes you should be taking (ask why too). Then shop around in your community, do some comparison shopping based on cost and buy/use the cheapest available. No, not all vitamins/minerals are created equal but you're not taking any now anyway. After a few months of taking them as recommended on the bottle(s), go back to your physician for a test or two and see if anything has changed.

It's important that you know that some vitamins are fat soluable and others are not. Those that are have to be taken when you consume some fat in order to maximize their benefit. READ the labels.
