Default Is Splenda Safe?!

I'm doing a report on Splenda for school! The manufacturer states that Splenda is perfectly safe, but I will try to look deeper! Some studies have shown that there may be ill affects on the thymus gland! Others say that we can't really be sure of any long-term affects! I'll be sure to post an update later!

Default Interesting question...

I am not too sure about Splenda, but I heard on the news here in Ohio only a couple weeks ago that diet drinks are linked to causing or stimulating Attention Deficet Disorder and hyperactivity. They were saying that it's the artificial sweetners that contain Aspartame that do it. I thought it was really interesting because I know several people who practically live on Diet Coke. I also read on the Internet that Aspartame is somewhat of a chemical mood elevator. Strange, huh? With all that stuff going on... I stay away from anything "diet" with artificial sweetners. Just don't trust it!

Default The results are in!!!

Well, my presentation went very well for my Organic Chemistry class. By researching three artificial sweeteners (Splenda, Equal, and Sweet N' Low) I found some very beneficial info for ALL women!!! Splenda, made of sucralose, is synthesized from sucrose or natural sugar. In my opinion, it's better for the body than any other artificial sweetener. Equal is made from aspartame which has been linked to brain lessions in rats. Even its approval by the FDA is a little "fishy." The FDA receives more complaints about this artificial sweetener than any other!!! Sweet 'N Low is made from aspartame which was thought to be a carcinogen for many years. However, it has been used for over 50 years and no such evidence has been found. Thus, it is assumed to be safe in the body. Obviously, sucrose or natural sugar is the best for your body. If you are trying to watch your calories for a short period of time, splenda is a great option!!! However, don't become too attached to these artificial sweeteners!! By the way, as afemaleprodigy mentioned, these sweeteners are found in all kinds of products that we might not even realize. Most diet sodas, yogurt, toothpaste, candy, almost anything can have an artificial sweetener in it!! For any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!!!

Default Sweeteners

Equal and Sweet N' Low do contain aspartame, which is highly dangerous, it is really addictive for some people and causes some major stomach problems for others. It is really risky to use sweeterners, especially in large amounts. To sweeten things it is better to use all natural sweeteners like cocoa or honey and stay away from all the chemical nonsense.

Default Is Spenda safe?

Thanks for the info. I have also heard that Stevia is another good one.

Default

If its chemically made......I wouldnt get into the habit of eating/drinking it!! I used to be a big fan of splenda, diet pop, "fat free" spray butter, etc. to help stay in shape, but I've come to the realization that this stuff is just not healthy for the body!! I found that Ive had a lot of stomach problems and once I eliminated these products, my symptoms have decreased significantly!! Lets face it, about a tsp of natural sugar is only 30 calories!!! You can burn that off by just parking your car a little further away from a building entrance and walking!! Researchers "say" these products are okay....but I just worry what they will say in the future after more detailed studies have been completed on the long term effects of these products!!!
