Well, I found out yesterday that I have Hypoglycemia. Ugh! Turns out that all the food I have been eating lately is causing my blood sugar to crash. I was on a diet eating all the good stuff, but when I started to lose what I thought was too much weight... I got into the bad habit of eating junk again. I haven't been putting on any weight so I didn't think there was a problem with the food. Turns out the the food I am eating lately converts to glucose (sugar) way too fast and causes these insulin spikes.

For anyone who doesn't know, Hypoglycemia will make you shaky, dizzy, blurred vision, loss of concentration, constant hunger, frequent urination, and fainting. I think there is more to it though. Those are the problems I have been having.

So now I am reading this book that was given to me by the doctors wife who is also Hypoglycemic. The ironic thing is that this book is pretty much the exact diet I was on before all this happened. I guess I was on the right track to begin with!! If anyone is interested, this is the book and I can vouche for this diet...

    Post Well...

Well, I have been having lots of issues and been trying to figure it out with my family doctor. It turns out that everyone thought I had Hypoglycemia, but that's not it. I am getting a hormone test next week because we are suspicious of Perimenopause now or some sort of hormone imbalance.

As for finding out about Hypoglycemia...

You can determine if you have Hypoglycemia by getting your blood sugar tested. You can have the doctor do it or you can get a glucose test kit. The kit tests your blood by pricking your finger with a small needle. You put the blood into an electronic strip and the meter tells you you blood sugar level. You can get these tests over the counter without a prescription. I think they cost anywhere from $40 and up. You must go to bed and not eat anything in the morning until you test your blood sugar. That period of testing is called "fasting". Then you eat, wait 30 minutes and test it again. Then you wait for another few hours and test again. You do this a few days to see what your blood sugar levels are. Determining if you have it or not is a combination of levels below 80 and how you feel. Below 60 is definate Hypoglycemia and you should have something sweet and see the doctor ASAP.
