I know a few girlfriends of mine who have been extremely unhappy with their whole body look- woman with larger hips and no breasts to speak of (beautiful ladies nonetheless) so they researched implants. The few who went ahead with surgery said it has changed their whole outlook! They are less self concious, feel so much more at peace with the way their bodies look. One gorgeous friend of mine said she didnt feel like a woman before- and now she does! I think thats fabulous. I even thought about it myself at one stage... but i have no money and my body is fairly well in proportion- if i am a little short!!!

LOL at WC wanting women to be happy with what they have, dont really see the need for implants but i have always had big hooters, as an 11 year old i looked about 16. i dont see that implants are that much difference to say cosmetic dental work, but that is my opinion.

I'm all for people loving their bodies but if it makes someone feel better about themselves (with in reason) I don't find it shallow. My sister-in-law got them done after having a baby because hers basically disappeared. I've known other women who were tired of never finding clothing that fits properly.

For the above poster that said most men don't like them, I think most men... don't care as long as they look and feel nice -- real or fake and mostly... as long as you are happy with them and are more confident thus feel more sexy etc...
Guy's tell girls without fake boobs that they hate fake boobs, icky icky icky yuck yuck... then spend all day wanking it to girls with fake boobs on the internet, bleah... I think the bottom line is finding peace with yourself and it not being for a guy but for you. I agree with WC that people SHOULD be happy with what they have. But we live in an appearance driven society, so its easy to be unhappy with what you have. I do think breast implants might come across to some people as sure fired sign of insecurity etc. I've admitted on numerous threads to being insecure. But I trully and honestly got the bewb job... because my breasts were a lost and hopeless cause. I would have NEVER... ever... been happy like that. Intimacy would have been out of the question for me. Not because they were small, because they were deformed after massive weightloss. Now my breasts match the body I worked so hard and spent years to achieve and I am happy with my choice. I wouldn't have done it just to be bigger, or even if there were a lil droop etc. My guy likes the me inside and my wrapper just fine, plastics and all.

I've never had them nor ever will and can't imagine from my own pov why I should consider it BUT just because I don't believe in it doesn't mean everyone is the same. (the plastic surgeons would actually have to work for a living if that were the case)
My thoughts are along WC's comment on "How about just loving what you have?" Even as a woman it's always seemed strange for me that people would surgically alter their appearance. I can understand why women would have them reduced if they were causing back problems and other issues but not enlarged. Mine are rather small but they're all mine so that fine with me. To each her own.

My mother got implants a few years back and she got them to boost her confidence. All her life people made comments about her breasts and to get the operation done gave her that little bit of confidence back.

This is a fashion dictate. The fashion world works very hard at getting and keeping as much control over women's dollars and choices as possible. To do that they, hand in hand with the media, work at systematically tearing down women's self esteem. They are very good at it, there are psychological ratings for words, colors, music - they put the whole thing together and it's effective.
Their goal is a ring through a woman's nose so they can lead her where they will and keep her off balance and spending constantly on clothes, cosmetics and now surgery. It doesn't matter if the styles look terrible on most women - in fact it may be preferable because that helps keep them insecure and looking to "fix" what ever is wrong this year. It doesn't matter if the style is uncomfortable, restrictive or even damaging, such as the skinny jeans that have caused nerve damange or shoes that are usafe to drive ir walk in. Many of the fashion ads are degrading to women, featuring male dominance, bondage, reverting to "little girl" status - look ar how many have grown women, even in businss attire, standing pigeon toed, knock kneeded or one foot slightly up behind the other, head slightly down, eyes up like a coy child. These are not images of confident, competent women, that isn't what the industry wants. People have to be aware of what they are looking at, of the conscious effort being made to manipulate and control. You vote against this behavior with your pockebook by not buying and by sending them a note telling them why.

You really hit the nail on the head WC. The media controls what we as a society deem attractive... the men... they buy it -- hook line and sinker. Then the women, who have an inherenant need to feel attractive to men have to succumb to it. That is the cycle of the world we live in.
