Default Plastic Surgery, choose safer options in the US

So I have some questions for you and I would like to hear from ladies in the US as well as different countries...
If you go out for a plastic/ cosmetic surgery with the cost factor high on your mind, you could easily get into hot waters.

To begin with scars from a surgery take time to heal and require periodic doctors supervision, which may not be possible in a foreign country. And what will happen should things go wrong. How do you report the doctor to the authorities?.

The safest option is to choose a doctor in your home country. A place like Lifestyle Lift, where I plan to have my facelift procedure is present in numerous states across the US. Additionally, all the surgeons are eligible for certification or are already certified.

Going all out to save money is often a recipe for disaster unless you can absolutely guarantee that the doctor and clinic abroad is all above board. I'm sure that there are some fantastic clinics abroad offering cosmetic surgery, but as these will likely cost you, you might as well have the surgery in your own country instead. At the end of the day, this is your health that you're potentially compromising.

When you get a quote for cosmetic procedures, they will usually factor in things like facilities and anaesthetics etc which will obviously make the cost higher. If you can get much cheaper quotes abroad, it does make you wonder where these foreign clinics are cutting corners because it just wouldn't be cost effective to charge much lower prices for the same procedures and facilities.

I would never go to a surgeon for plastic surgery that is not a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

I am not one to have a lot of procedures done. I really don't like doctors all that much. I did have my nose fixed (reconstructive surgery) back in the 80s. I ended up havng to have 2 surgeries. A friend referred me to my surgeon, but before I even made consultation appointment I did the research and made the calls to verify that he is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. just because a doctor is perfroming plastic surgey procedures that does not mean that they are quilified to perfrom plastic surgery. That is were you can get into trouble. Now with the internet it is much easier to make sure your surgeon is board certified. For a surgeon to become an ASPS member and become board certified they have to:
  • Have at least 6 years of training and experience in surgery, with 3 years specifically in plastic surgery
  • Is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
  • Operates only in accredited medical facilities
  • Adheres to a strict code of ethics
  • Fulfills continuing education requirements, including patient safety techniques.

I strongly suggest that anyone considering any type of plastic surgery visit and verify that your surgeon is Board Certified.

I am Clara Reagan,31 years old from Florida
I would like to share my experience with you guys.
8 months ago I went to Bolivia to reshape my body,I wish I can tell you my whole story because I am very happy with my results, but this will take me days!!!
To go abroad to have any cosmetic surgery is something that for some people can sounds a little crazy but for women like you I think is just the best most of all because of the price and guarantee!
Here in America you go with a surgeon, you pay a fortune and then if you don’t like the result they apologize and that’s it, that’s why I was looking for an organization, I think that when you don’t have a lot of money, you have safe for years and you want a good result, you must take the time to look for the best company, not to be afraid of everything because when people are afraid of everything their life stop.
For 5 months I was in touch with Makeover Travel, my assistant really took the time to answer all of my questions, she made me feel really confident, that’s why I decided to travel to Bolivia and I am happy to know that I didn’t take a bad decision.
I arrive to the Camino Real Hotel, beautiful hotel with a lovely swimming pool(that of course I just used the first day because my surgery was the day after my arrival), but any way I really loved this hotel, I met a lot of patients when I was having my recovery so I didn’t feel lonely at all, most of the patients were women and most of them went there by them selves also so this is something that made us feel like family, is something difficult to describe…
My surgeon,Dr.Cossio, was a lovely human being, he took care of each of us like you don’t have an idea, he wasn’t the only one, I must say that makeover travel`s staff were also very caring, all of them did a great job!
There are a few things that I learnt when I was there, first of all latin people have a different sense of time than American or even European people, they are never worry about anything, this made me crazy the first 3 days because they told me they were going to arrive at a certain hour and they arrived 15 minutes late or half an hour late, I am more patient now after this trip!!!
It is nice to see how we can be so different from latin people, I don’t know if it’s the same in all the countries but I love the way they live, they begin every day at 9:00am, they go to eat with their families at 12:00pm and they go back to work at 3:00pm(everything is close during these 3 hours, can you believe it!), they finish at 8:00pm, what a life!!I wish I can have a life like this and also something very important, everything is really cheap for example the taxi charge you 1.5 dollars to go anywhere in the city, the meals cost in average 6 dollars per person in a nice place(this is like our fast food but there is a nice restaurant).
Well talking about prices I spent 5200$ for 5 areas liposuction plus my tummy tuck including transportation, stay, clinic, blood test and assistance.Plus the most important for me the guarantee!
My recovery wasn’t really painful, of course that during 4 days I felt a little sore and I couldn’t sleep very good but after these days I started feeling better, the surgeon prescribed me good pain killers but the only thing that bothered me a little bit was to use the compression garment, but they told me that was really important to have good results.
After 12 days of my trip, I came back, Dr.Cossio told me that it was better for me to remove the stitches 15 days after the surgery so he gave a medical certificate for my doctor here in the states so he could remove them.
Now after 8 moths I feel very happy, I didn’t write before because this is along process, you don’t see your results immediately, they told me that I should wait at least 6 moths to see a big change so I wanted to wait, other wise I think that my opinion would be different because you don’t see a big change at the beginning.
Sorry for stealing your time, for some people all my experience can be really helpful and for other people can be a lie, or just but I wanted to share all this with you because sometimes we have a wrong idea of experiences abroad, mine was really positive!
Good luck!
