So I went for an pelvic ultrasound the results for which I will receive today. The good news is that I got my period this morning so that more or less eliminates the pregnancy prob...whew!! But does anyone else have this? Can u let me know what it's like?

Heyy..
im 18 years old n a few days back i went to my dr and discovered that i have polycystic ovaries..what basically happens is that the male hormone testosterone is excessively being made in ur body. but my periods are not very irregular i get them almost every month just one month in between they dont come ..other than that i do have hair growth which is one of the most common symptoms. what i've even heard is that women with polycystic ovaries tend to have problems in conceiving coz of lack of ovulation but im confused about this too as i am getting my periods so i am ovulating. im pretty confused n worried about this too but im starting with my treatment soon.i think u should start of with ur treatment soon too. thats all i know about it till now. hope its useful to you

My best friend has PCOS. She had been trying for a year and a half before she found out. She does have very irregular periods and the OBGYN said that she basically only ovulates 4 times a year(whenever she gets her period) But what it is, like Saff was saying, is you produce extra testosterone when you ovulate. So what happens when you ovulate, is instead of producing lots of estrogen to make the egg mature, the testosterone does the opposite causing the egg to stay immature. The good thing is, is many many people with PCOS still conceive and have healthy babies, but a lot of the time fertility help is needed. My friend has to take a pill to bring her period on so that she ovulates regularly. Then on the 3rd day of her period, she takes something called Clomid which gives you female hormones and helps the egg mature and stay healthy while ovulating. Sometimes Cysts will show on the ovaries, but not all the time. Yeah basically like Saff was saying, because of the testosterone, you may produce more hair, gain weight easier, have irregular periods, and other things due to hormonal differences. I hope this helps for you. I know my best friend hasnt let it get her down and she has done a ton of research on it, so she is educated and is not going to give up! I hope you are the same way
