    Hi - first time posting.

Just found out I was pregnant last week, very excited. According to the date of my last period, I am just over 5 weeks pregnant. I've been having cramping on both sides of my abdomen, mostly on my left side. Lately they seem to intensify after I've emptied my bladder.

I've searched the internet for answers and round ligament pains sound like the plausible reason, except that it would seem this happens later in the pregnancy (not this early anyway), and it's usually mostly on the right side (which is not my case). Also, I have always had IBS, and the last couple weeks have been very bloated and gassy. Sometimes the pain is obviously just gas. But I'm still nervous. Anyone had experience with this kind of pain this early in their pregnancy?

    Thanks so much in advance!

Hello there. I had mild cramping from about 5-10 weeks. I am currently 33 weeks and healthy. Its normal to cramp during this time as long as there is no bleeding and it is only mild pain. It wouldnt be round ligament pain, because like you said, it occurs later in pregnancy when your uterus has grown so much that those ligaments have stretched beyond their mean. I got that at about 23 weeks or so. What you are probably experiencing is your uterus itself stretching out to make room for your baby to start growing. There is also cramping that comes from the egg attaching itself to the uterine wall...but I think you are far enough along that this is not whats bothering you. But As long as its mild and not accompanied by bleeding, it is completely normal! Enjoy your pregnancy
