I guess this could be technically called a miscarriage, but I've heard that your body can abort unhealthy eggs with your period.

Is there any way you can know if this happened or not?

Probably no way to know. I supose you could call it an abortion. That might create some interesting legislation, rather like a situation a GF told me of at work where some tricky wording resulted in employees being require to give two weeks notice before they die.

What ever you chose to call it, sometimes you have to accept that your body does what it needs to. Take care of yourself.

Yeah it was brought up in a discussion I was having with friends about IUD's. Someone I know has an IUD and someone (I think it was a stranger) yelled at her because it's abortion...so now she's not sure if she wants to keep the IUD.

I don't think my body has gotten rid of any unhealthy eggs...that I know of. I mean, if the body knows it would be an unhealthy fetus/baby, then that's really out of the woman's control.

for clarification: the stranger thought it was abortion...
me personally...I dunno where I stand with that. And even if I didn't agree with it, I wouldn't go shouting in someone's face about it.
    But that's just me.

Just for clarification and hopefully your friends... A little explanation as to what happens during your period.

In the first half of the cycle, levels of estrogen start to rise and make the lining of the uterus grows and thickens. At the same time, an egg in one of the ovaries starts to mature. Around day 14 of a cycle (of a 28 day cycle) is when ovulation occurs, the egg leaving ovary.

After the egg has left the ovary it travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus. Progesterone levels rise and help prepare the uterine lining for pregnancy. A woman is most likely to get pregnant during the three days before ovulation or on the day of ovulation. Keep in mind, this varies depending on how long or short your cycle is.

If the egg is fertilized by a man’s sperm cell, and attaches to the uterine wall, the woman becomes pregnant. If the egg is not fertilized, it will break apart. If pregnancy does not occur, hormone levels drop, and the thickened lining of the uterus is shed during the menstrual period.

All in all, you shed your broken down eggs with every period you have. An IUD is a form of BC, a form of prevention, just like the pill, etc., not a form of abortion.

    Hope this helps.
