Default Trying for a baby

Hi, my husband and I are trying to concieve, I came off the pill 18 months ago and have experienced irregular periods ever since,(usually between 60 and 70 days, I have had PCOS and thyroid problems eliminated) this is very frustrating because I do not know when im ovulating. can anyone give me any advice regarding how to tell if you miss a period if they are not regular to begin with?

Sounds very similar to me when we started trying to conceive.

The first thing I would recommend, especially if you are irregular, is to start charting your BBT (basal body temperature). You can buy the BBT thermometer and charts usually by the pharmacy. Once you start understanding your BBT cycles, you may be able to tell when/if you are ovulating. You have to chart for a good month or so to start to notice any type of cycle. Also, you need to take your temp before you do anything in the morning, including getting out of bed. I kept my thermometer on my nightstand and did it as soon as I woke up in the morning.

After researching BBT, if you do not see any type of cycle in your temperatures, it is more than likely because of your irregular menstrual cycle.

You could go two ways... You could try some natural ways to start you cycle and keep charting. Ginger tea, black cohosh (I believe), WC may have some other ideas if she reads this thread.

Or you could go straight to the Dr. This is what I did and this is exactly what happened. After about 15 - 18 months of me off birth control and still no pregnancy, I went in to the Dr. He had me chart for a few months, still nothing. He gave me Provera for 10 days to start my cycle. Once that started, we charted for about 2 more months, still nothing. I did another cycle of Provera, along with Chlomid. We did this cycle for about 3 months and I FINALLY got pregnant.

Good Luck!

Ahh thankyou so much, I was beginning to think no one else understood, sounds daft i know but being in that situation when friends and family around me are conceiving so easily I thought I was the only one.
Since your reply I have started to chart my BBT so i will see how that and natural remedies go to begin with, but when I get so impatient again I will visit my GP again,
Thankyou so much

Good! Pop on every once in a while (or more often!) and let me know how you progress.

Have fun and again, Good Luck!
