Default Not ovulating, how can I get pregnant in future?

I am 25. Ever since I was 16 I have had very irregular periods. I started when I was 13, and for a while they were normal. They would come at the end of the month, but around 16 years of age I would go almost an entire year without having a period. That continued until I was 23. That July I had a period with severe pain, to the point it hurt me to move. My lower back and lower stomach was so so crampy I couldn't do anything and the bleeding was so severe I had to change my pad every 15 minutes.
From that July until September when I went away to college my periods would come more often than once a month and I never knew when I would start, how long it would last, etc. It was always very heavy too.
I couldn't go to school like that so the college nurse put me on birth control, Avian or something like that. I spotted, had break through bleeding frequently so when I came back home I was put on Ortho Tricyclin LO...after a few months using that I started having breakthrough bleeding so last year in April I was at the clinic for my yearly exam and they put me on Ortho Tricyclin. So far I haven't had any problems.
I went off BC for a few months back in August and I had one period that was very short, then nothing. I went to the clinic and they did a preg. test and it was neg. They pretty much told me I have to stay on BC to cycle regularly...but if I want to get pregnant how can I do that? Once the drugs are out of my system it shuts down again, not cycling, but the only way to cycle is if I stay on the pill but then it will not be possible for the sperm to get through.

I am getting married in 4 months, and after that I will want to try to get pregnant.
Is there anything I can do??
I am already dieting because I want to lose weight for the wedding and I know overweight women have a harder time getting pregnant and being overweight can contribute to not cycling regularly.
I have only seen the nurses at the free health clinic. I have not had any tests done because I want to do that only if I have to. Doctors make me have panic attacks and I'm just not crazy about showing my parts to a male dr.
My mom was exactly the same way..she said she just had to time it just right in between using the pill so the pill was out of her system but she was still cycling. I don't know anything about basal body temps or how to know if you are ovulating.
I do want to get pregnant with my future husband who I love very much.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!

If you ceased your periods today, being the 5th January, you would ovulate on the 16th through to around the 22nd.

So, I would not take the birth control pill when you finish your period and be very active 11 days after for 11 days, wait for your period to come on again, hopefully and take the pill and try again every 2 month via this way.

I suspect that is how your Mother did it and after all she suffered the same thing and you were born

Speak to her more in depth, she's a living person who has been through it, about the timing.

And, seek an alterative Doctor's view, they are treating one cause by way of birth control which is creating another problem and see what answer they may come up with.

You may have to induce your period either with medication or naturally.

You can also start reading up on charting your BBT. I would start doing that immediately because it takes a few months to notice any patterns. Once you become familiar with charting your cycles and find a pattern, you should be able to see when/if you are ovulating.

How would I go about inducing my period naturally? I have never heard about that. I will read up on the BBT also. I know your supposed to take your temp every morning, even before you get out of bed and record it to keep track of it. Usually when your ovulating it'll be higher, right?
I was off any birth control for close to 3 months and I have been careless before with my fiance, forgetting to take a pill and having sex. We never use a condom. I figured if I was going to get pregnant it would have happened by now without any sort of protection but I guess I'll have to plan and plot and just have sex when the time's right.
Any other tips or tricks to get pregnant? I know if you hold your legs in the air it's supposed to help the sperm move upstream and I was told a high protein diet will help too.
