I am sure your doctor would do it, most of them induce like crazy anyway. But plaese, before you do, google the drug Pitocin which is what they use to induce and comtemplate the risks. Pitocin could lead to needing a c-section, to hemerroging, etc.

    Are you anemic?
    That can slow labor.
How do you know it's slow active labor and not Braxton Hicks contractions?
Being up walking around, getting active, should help. Is this your first?

Pitocin produces a much more intense and painful contraction. I don't know that they are any more effective. Typically they get you in the hospital, lay you on your back, which cuts the blood supply to the baby and you and then this can slow your labor and you feel it all more intensely. So then they give you an epidural, which stalls your labor and then they give the pitocin to jump start it. Then with the decreased blood flow and now you can't even move on your own, let alone push things along, they decide you need a C-section. The US does more of these than any two other countries in the world combined.

It's a heck of a system. Makes them plenty of extra dollars. If your stayed on your feet, letting gravity help things along and moving around, the labor would be easier and go faster and be easier. Henry the 8th made the laying down delivery popular. Good old Henry like to watch his mistresses give birth, of course if the king did it everyone else wanted to. The incomprehensible thing is that we are Still doing it!

Very well said wildchild. I used a midwife for my last pregnancy to avoid just this scenario and others. I was sooooo happy I did. I learned so much from her all backed up by statistics and proof, and was really horrified by it all. I can't believe doctor's dole out pitocin like aspirin. Oh, and another scenario to add. Pitocin will make you contract harder than normal, so it can also cause your cervix to swell, slowing labor and leading to a c-section.

    I know you're miserable.

I was on time or even late with all six of my daughters, so I feel your pain. Babies come when they're ready; truth be told, most deliveries go without a hitch if left alone and in the hands of the very capable woman's body. It's hard now, but well worth it in the end.

Keep active and let nature nurture you. Best of luck.
