    Default Threatened Miscarriage

My love and I have been off BC for a few months and opening the possibility for a "surprise" in our lives. I hadn't been thinking about it, but started feeling poorly (woozy, nauseous) at work, so I decided to take a test.
It came out a faint 2nd line, and I was excited for it to be positive and made an appointment for Friday with the gyno. It dawned on me yesterday that it had been 6+ weeks since my last period and that this was a REAL pregnancy, not just another month without any surprises.
Unfortunately, what feels exactly like my period also started yesterday. It's less in volume and different texturally than my regular menstruation is. Upon visiting the ER, they confirmed my pregnancy with a blood test (41 whatever kind of units they use to measure hcg) and told me it was too early to ultrasound. Just to go home, do pelvic rest, and hope the bleeding stopped. Gave me some papers about "Threatened Miscarriage" and sent me on my way.
So I've been googling since last night on this and what I can't find are the stories from women who've been through it. I know anecdotes don't make the best statistical data but I'd like to stop worrying! So if you had bleeding during the first few months of your pregnancy, or are in the first few months and bleeding now, let me know what you are doing, what your doctor suggested, and how it turned out.
    Thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience with a threatened miscarriage, but I do know it's not too early for an ultrasound. It would be a vaginal ultrasound, which is why they may be hesitant to do it.

I'd call you Dr today and explain your trip to the ER, see if they can get you in any sooner than Friday.

Good luck and get plenty of rest!

I had periods my first 2 months of pregnancy... the were lighter, much lighter, but there were moments it was like a regular period. But I'd have spotting, think it was over, start again with just light pink... then regular blood... I had no idea I was pregnant. By the end of my second month it was the sleeping all day and being grouchy that lead my roomate to get a pregnancy test for me, not that my period was amiss -- so it must have been decent enough of a period not to concern me of pregnancy.

When I went to my appoint and found out I was 8 weeks along so had been pregnant during those periods.

Wanted to add that I had a healthy baby boy... my doctor didn't seem concerned at all when I said I had those couple of lighter periods he said it was called 'spotting' and didn't seem to have a problem with it.

    Oh Darling Little,
I'm afraid I can't help on this, it's not something I experienced. Some women do have spotting. All you can do is rest and see what happens.

May just be heavy spotting/implantation bleeding depending on how far along you are and everything. Everyones body responds differently to pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. When I was pregnant I experienced quite heavy bleeding for about 2 weeks from 4 weeks to 6 gone. When I went for my second scan (they will do this if you make an appointment with a midwife, choose a hospital to have the baby at in the end) everything was fine. If it's slimy brownish blood (sorry TMI) it's old blood thats just lost it HG so not much to worry about there. It's if you start getting cramps, heavy red/bright pink bleeding with clots.
If you're worried about it at any time but don't want to bother to doctor/MW or got to A & E you can always call NSH direct they usually call you back within 20 minutes or so and ca be a real help! All was well in my pregnancy until 15 weeks when an unrelated incident caused me to miscarry (I was kicked roughly in the lower back without expecting it :'( stupid idiots on street corners drinking cider...)
I hope that everything turns out for the best for you!

Well ladies - bad news. Took a urine test this morning, didn't even have any HcG left in it to get a positive. Still went to my appointment where I learned fun terms like "blighted ovum" and "spontaneous abortion."
All in all, I'm in good spirits. I've had a few days to think on this and prepare ... and all this means is that next time I'll be better prepared!
Thank you all for your support!

Glad you are in good spirits with this. Watch your diet and make sure you get plenty of folic acid. Maybe start a prenatal vit?

I have some already, going to continue taking them. Going to get back on the exercise wagon (didn't help that apparently, I was already pregnant when I joined the gym! No wonder it was so hard to lose weight ..,) eat better, and try to drop about 10-15lbs and get to a nice pre-pregnancy weight/health. Just taking my time formulating a plan.
On the up-side, I'm going on vacation as of Sunday night for a whole week. So I get plenty of time to recoup and relax.
The doctor thinks that my body has expelled all the material and I won't need a D&C, which is great. That's one more thing I don't have to worry about.
