Hi, I need some advice on trying for a baby for the first time. Me and my fiancé have been together for 5 years and living together for 3, we have finally decided to start trying for a baby.
I am currently taking Yasmin (the pill) and looking to come off it to start trying; I was wondering how long after stopping the pill does it take to become fertile again? I have read the booklet that comes with the pack of pills but it doesn't give a lot of information.

    Thank You in advance x

Have you consulted with your physician? I would.

Almost all prescription meds. have web sites of the same name that can also offer more information than is frequently included with the packaging. You may have to do some digging, since so much of the info. on the site will be "fluff" or stuff you don't care about. They might also have a "contact us" link of some sort where you could ask your question(s).

I will assume since every body is different, everybody is going to be a little different about how long it takes (exactly) for your body to be free of the chemicals completely.

I used to tell my wife that in order to make a perfect baby, we had to practice a lot !!

Most doctors will tell you that though you can possibly become fertile again very quickly after coming off the pill, it's a good idea to wait 6 months to get all of it out of your system and to allow your body to have a few normal cycles.

When you go off the pill, start charting. I learned a tremendous amount through reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. The 10th Anniversary Edition comes with a CD for free trial software for 15 days. The software allows you to enter your information and it charts for you. I loved it so much I ended up buying it after my trial period was up. I'm on my first month charting. Most doctors will also tell you that most women ovulate around day 14... but reality is that we all are different. This month, I ovulated on day 27 of my cycle!!! I knew this because I was charting. Now I know that I should start within 12-16 days after the day I ovulated. If I start my period BEFORE 12-16 days, that could mean I'm not producing enough progesterone and when I do decide to get pregnant this could cause issues. By charting, I would know this going into it, rather than trying unsuccessfully for a year or so before getting it figured out. The author also created a website with forums where women can get on there and ask questions to each other and compare charts. In trying to get pregnant, you know exactly when your most fertile days are. You can also continue to chart during pregnancy and can see signs of miscarriage way before the normal pregnant woman does. It's extremely informational and extremely empowering to literally take charge of your fertility. You can order the book on Walmarts website or Amazon for under $20.

    Good luck.
