However, your age and the fact that you have done some drinking and took some herbs does not necessarily mean that the embryo is affected.

Is it the tech or radiologist who told you to talk with another doctor? They may not be permitted to say anything because their protocol may be that your physician has to talk with you.
Perhaps the robot I talked too misunderstood or didn't explain things well but he made it sound like I would not be told either way. I've not had an opportunity to talk to anyone yet beside the CSR that I already talked to.

    belinda-davis,

I think if nothing is wrong, then I don't want to know but if it is, I do. Regardless, it is going to be hard.

I'm probably way over thinking things anyway which is what I usually do when I'm nervous and upset.

First of all, ultrasounds are given to determine whether or not you are indeed pregnant and to ensure that you are with the allowable gestational limits of an abortion (whether or not it's considered a therapeutic abortion -- one done for medical reasons). It is also done to ensure that there is not more than one fetus. Imagine aborting one, yet having a second fetus that continues into a full-term pregnancy. The chances are slim, but it has happened.
Secondly - The person performing the ultra-sound is usually a technician not a medical doctor and therefore cannot make any medically related statements. i.e. cannot state whether or not there are any problems with the foetus. Also, at 7 weeks it is unlikely that a doctor would be able to unequivocably state whether or not there is something chromosonically wrong with the baby. These types of determinations require extensive chromosonal testing and blood work.

Thirdly, why would you want to go further into the pregnancy just to miscarry at a later date (if that is what you'd be hoping for). The risks of further complications to you increase exponentially with each week that goes by. Not to mention the emotional toil it would take on you, waiting for the end, so to speak.

    |At your age chances of complications increase each year. It seems that you have made a conscious decision to end the pregnancy, your reasons are your own. If you feel it is right for you, then you must do what is right for you. Either way, to continue an unwanted (unplanned) pregnancy or to abort, your life will never be the same.

One item I find interesting in your post is that you are not saying anything about the Father. Is he in the picture? Would he have some rights that would change the outcome of your decision? Does he know you are pregnant? Will he be there to support you when you have this procedure done? You will need support, your will need a shoulder to cry on, you will need non-judgmental persons around you.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Cheese, again, please don't divert the topic of this thread. The poster has specifically stated that she does not want a debate on the issue here. Your comments may only be upsetting her further. Furthermore upon careful review of the original post, you can see that she indeed has considered her options and made her decision based on her specific situation.

If you want to discuss the merits of abortion then feel free to start your own thread, for a healthy and objective debate. Remember that we are all entitled to our own views.

I'm typing this from the ER as I wait to get my discharge papers. I was having some cramping and decided to come get evaluated. The ultrasound showed an abnormal fetal pole and no heartbeat was present. I felt all along that something might be wrong with the pregnancy so I'm glad I came to the ER today. I still feel uncomfortable about Planned Parenthood's response to my questions. There is a good chance that I would have gone through the entire abortion process unnecessarily when I will abort this child naturally on my own as I did in a previous pregnancy after being told it was not viable.

Thank you so much for offering me this sounding board. A large part of me was sad to hear the news about my pregnancy even though I had prayed to God to take this one back. Thank you.

I hope you have a speedy recovery. Perhaps some form of conception control is in order since you beat the stats once already?
