I have had two pregnancies where I started to go into labor at 30 weeks. The first I delivered at 36 weeks - a baby girl who spent 10 days in the nicu because she would rather sleep than eat and the second a son who came home the day after I did.My experience however with my son was HORRIBLE!!! I had a doctor that I loved where we lived and then we moved back to our hometown and for a while we drove an hour + to go to that same doctor. When I started going into labor again at 30 weeks we decided to switch to a doctor at the same hospital we delivered our daughter in, however the doctor I had had was no longer there. I was high risk and had limited choice of a doctor and got one with the most horrible bed side manner there ever was - and this was a women doc!! She was rude and very down about everything. Well with this pregnancy I developed high blood pressure and according to all the literature I read I should have had an amniocentesis and gone ahead and delivered him but all she wanted to say was there was no way his lungs were mature and didn't bother doing the amnio unless my bp went up even higher. Well by luck of the draw we went to one appointment where she was out and got a doctor who not only thought this was a good idea and should have done it before he scheduled it for the next day. To make a long story shorter - we went in, his lungs were mature, was induced and 27 hours later I went with another c-section, delivered by a wonderful doctor at UVA by the name of Dr. Fergusen, finally a good outcome!! My advice is to not stand by and be treated like you don't know anything and stand up for yourself - pregnancy is challenging enough without having to have someone make you feel miserable throughout a time that is supposed to be wonderful - even if you are having a rough time of it don't let the attitude of some doctor make it worse!! They are not God and you can ask for someone else!!
