Hello Ladies -
My fiance and I have been together for 6 1/2 years. I was on the pill for almost 9 years and just recently came off. I initally went on the pill to help regulate my cycle. The reason I came off is for 2 reasons. 1 - I wanted to give my body a break after being on the pill for so long and 2 - we decided to start trying to get pregnant. Our inital thought was it will happen when it's supposed to happen, but it's been almost 6 months and nothing. I have no clue when I'm ovulating b/c I have such an irregular period (I have a 15 to 18 day cycle vs. the normal 27 to 29). I get my period almost every 2 weeks so I have no clue when the right time to try is. I obviosly can't use an Ovulation Calendar so any suggestions or anyone out there w/ the same issue??? Thanks

I am in the same boat as you are. I have been trying for 9 months & nothing. My periods were every 28 days & each month now they are getting farther & farther apart. Last month it was 37 days, I have no idea when I am ovulating either. I went to the dr & they told me that I had one child with my husband & that I should be able to have another one, no help at all. Have you been to the dr. about it? Good Luck!!

Hello ladies - I am so excited to share this with you.
My husband and I went off the pill in Feb (I'd been on the pill for 5+ years and depo before that). I expected my body to go back to normal right away which was wrong. I didn't have a period for 3 months and thought for sure I'd gotten pregnant right out of the gates. But no. My normal doctor told me it's normal for it to take a good year for my cycles to regulate, and we could deal with it then if we weren't pregnant yet. That was not the answer I was looking for, so I went to a friend's Naturopathic Doctor. She drew my blood, did her assesment and after the results came back called me back in to discuss. She put me on a tincture called Vitex. It's an herbal extract of some sort that you mix with a little juice and drink in the morning. It's high in progesteron which was what my blood tests showed I was lacking. You have to take it daily, but sure enough, in no time I was regular. My husband is sort of on the fence about the whole thing saying my "hippy doctor" prescribed me "dog ear medicine" (it comes in a bottle with one of those dropper things like you'd put into a dog's ear). I don't care what he says, it worked. Also, she had me start charting which I would highly recommend even though it's a pain. Every morning before you get out of bed (before you even get up to use the bathroom), you take your temperature and fill in the temp on the chart. Over time, you'll see that your body has a crazy cycle of it's own. After doing it a month, you'll see exactly when you were ovulating because there's a distinct spike in temperature (we're talking like a whole degree). Whether or not you have a period, if you are in fact ovulating, you'll see it. There's another aspect of charting besides temperature...it's paying attention to your vaginal discharge. I guess it goes the color and consistancy of raw egg whites when you're ovulating. Without being too gross, you have to insert two fingers and assess what type of discharge you have and when it goes egg white, then you need to start having sex. I was really good about the temp thing but not so much on the other piece. Anyway, we just recently found out we're pregnant even though I have only had 2 total periods since Feb and it's now Oct. Somehow I managed to get pregnant without having a period to guide me. Maybe it was a one off, I don't know. What I do know is that I found more support at the Naturopath than I did with my traditional western medicine doctor and at least I was busy doing whatever I could while my body tried to figure itself out. All the best to you all. Jamie |

This is a really old thread. The OP and the few respondents haven't been around in nearly two years, the most recent posted once and never came back. Why not start a new thread if this is of interest?
