Lately, i have been wondering more about labor pain and giving birth since time is getting closer and closer. Its making me a bit nervous, i dont know what to expect and the pain, well im wondering how im i going to bare this. I have birthing classes coming up soon, which they will show me techniques on breathing and everything. What about women on here, how was giving birth for you all? Was it really painful? Did anyone opt for the epidural? How exactly does the pain feel like? Ive heard its like period cramps but worst? I would like to hear your experiences on this, please do share with me. Thanks!

    Oh patricias
I was just like you, I was asking everyone about giving birth
trust me, that is a bad thing since every woman has her own experience.
my experience in my first child is different than the second.

the key thing is going to the hospital , excited to have a baby , do not think about the pain and all that stuff, it will affect you negatively.

don't be scared, women since the creation have been giving birth, women as young as 12 or 13 in some underdeveloped countries have babies , with no medical supervision at all.

so you should feel blessed that you will have your child in one of the most developed countries, where hospitals are equipped with the best technologies, best doctors, best care ever.

My advice to you, take the epidural, you won't feel the pain, it is best invention for women, i took it, and advice others to go for it.

Its normal to be nervous right now, but as time gets closer you will more relieved when the time finally comes. The labor pains are painful, its kind of hard to explain its kind of like menstraul cramping but more intense. When you get your contractions you will feel the tighting of your uterus and the pain will come really fast last a few seconds or even a minute than dissapear, than depending on how far apart your contractions are this will happen every few minutes. Some women are different and some preganacies are different. When I had my first all my contractions were in my lower back, just and intense pain that made it uncomfortable to lay on my back, so I had to lay on my side. My other two after that, my contractions were all in my front, just a tighting in my abdomen. I heard though than when you get the epidural its not that bad, you feel numb from the waist down. I don't know though because I had all mine natural. Okay this is a little weird to say but when you are having the baby in a way it feels like your trying to push out a big stool lol, you might feel a little stinging when the baby's head is coming out, only because your vagina is stretching, and depending you might get a little tear that could also cause the stinging. But once the babys head is out, the whole body will come out like nothing. Than afterwards the placenta will be pulled out, you might have to push a little for that to, than its all over. Afterwards though you may still get light contractions its only because your uterus is going back to before. Let me just say this though those breathing techniques will help out a lott!!! I did them and they helped me relax more and they made the labor more easier.
Im sorry I hope this information doesn't make you more nervous, its not as bad as it sounds. Yes it is a hard thing we have to go through but once the baby is born it will be all worth it! Congradulations on your new baby!!! And Im sure you will be fine.

    Thanks for the replies.

miserable mom, no your info didnt make me nervous lol. I actually dont mind reading about the worst of labor pain because i would like to know everyone's experience in it as much as possible. My doctor did advised me to try first then opt for an epidural if the pain is unbearable. If i can have my baby natural i will. Thanks again!

I'm not going to lie to you, labour is very very painful. I was in labour for 6 hours with my little girl and although people tell you to think of the outcome when you start getting contractions, its very hard to do this when all you can feel is pain.
I used gas and air and when I was 7cm dilated I had an epidural the worst thing was it only worked down one side of my body so I could still feel all the pain, pretty pointless me having it really.
If I ever have another I will ask for it early on, but there is a downside it can slow your labour right down.
    Good Luck
    xx

At some point the pain is never bearable. if there is something to let have a pain-free labor, why not?
and it is good to know about birth from science stand point, like reading and watching TV, I used to watch baby story show on TLC channel every day. it is helpful to see real stories of women go through labor.

    Patricias!

I didn't know you were pregnant! Congratulations!

    Labor pains are painful!
If you feel the need to take pain meds, then go ahead and take 'em!
Some labors are so fast, you don't get a chance to get meds!
Mine was like that... by the time I asked for something for pain, my baby was already there!

I do hope i have a quick labor. I have dealt with the worst of menstrual cramps and when i do, i live on advil so i can just imagine if labor pains are worst, im sure i'll be asking for an epidural in no time!

With all respect...it feels like you are trying to pass
    a pumpkin.

    Although each is different...

My first, pain but the water didn't break
My second, the water broke eighteen hours before
    the pain
the third, lots of pain and half a baby in a taxi...

You usually have either a feeling you have to go to
    the bathroom...and nothing comes out....
you feel as if a ribbon around your waist has been
    tightened.

    Then comes the pain.

The best most comfortable position is to be in the
back seat of a car, leaning on the father, and pressing
his back into the arm rest each time there's a pain...

Seriously, sitting up, with your knees by your chest
is much less painful than lying down.

I agree! With both my kids, I felt that way... and I felt like "a ribbon around my waist was being tightened."

My first took longer than my 2nd. #2 was out in no time!
