I'm not pregnant, but plan to start trying in the coming months. I have one question that I can't get a straight answer on: Are artificial sweetners safe? Aspertame and Splenda, are both bad or is one okay? ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE???

Splenda is very safe. You can use it throughout your pregnancy no worries.

I have not heard test on Splenda as it relates to pregnancy. Splenda has the chemical makeup close to chlorine. Depending on the consumption it has been linked to shrinking I believe the thyroid. I would not recommend any artifical sweetners to a pregnant person. It's not the worth the risk of damaging the fetus which is very sensitive to a lot of things and could cause permanent brain damage or birth defects.

Splenda is a trade name given to a generic, low calorie sweetener called sucralose. According to the Food and Drug Administration and the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives, sucralose is safe for everyone to consume, including pregnant women.

Many people have questioned the safety of the additive because the process to make sucralose involves taking real sugar and substituting three chlorine atoms for three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule. The addition of chlorine atoms renders the sugar molecule inactive so that it passes through the body without being metabolized. This is what makes it low calorie. Your body does not recognize the molecule as either a sugar or a carbohydrate, so it has no effect on blood sugar levels or insulin production making it a safe sugar substitute for diabetics to use.

Altough its considered safe its best to stay natural. I used splenda during my pregnancy but i used it once in a while like 1 time a week, so if you bake and do everything with splenda its best to limit yourself.

Its done internally and externally. In pregnancy, the first few weeks its done internally to get a better reading after that its done externally.
