I had a really bad experice. I will spare the details but I was on my about the third day of my period and had sex with a tampon in. I didn't know for sure that it was stuck until a few days later. I got it out myself but it was in me for about 7 days. I am now about 2 days late for my next period. Can I be pregnant? I know that there is a tiny chance since sperm can live for about 5 days in the body but I'm pretty sure I was not ovulating close to that time. I guess I'm asking if the lost tampon could have helped the sperm live longer or maybe blocked the sperm? In regards to the lost tampon...could my period be late or affected due to some infection or somthing?!?

Eh. the chances of being pregnant are pretty slim. Infection is more likely. However, if you had an infection you more than likely would have had some symptoms to alert you. Odor, discharge, pain?

Its only been two days. Give it a lil time. Anything can trigger changes in your period. Stress (worrying about being pregnant or sick) physical activity, the moon... after a week, take a pregnancy test. Keep in mind, there are no false positives.

On another note... NEVER HAVE SEX WITH A TAMPON IN PLACE. Sorry. As you have learned personally, yes, they can get lost in there.

Thanks for the response. I just don't think there is an infection since I do not have an odor and no big changes in discharge. There is not really any pain but more like discomfort at times. Which may also be a sign of pregnancy?

    Hi Lalalu,

If you are not sure that you might be pregnant, go and pick up a Home Pregnancy Test. I have had three babies and with all of them I used First Response for this test can detect pregnancy hormones up too 4 days before missed period. If you test comes back negative and you are still having discomfort then I would suggest you see your Dr, you might have bruised or tore something inside due to having sex while tampon in place. Please let us know how it goes.

Update: It's day 38 and over the last few months the longest my cycle has been is 34 days. I've sort of felt like my period was coming but it just hasn't...I took a first response hpt today it was negative and I was very relieved! But then I became paranoid that I didn't do it right and took a second one a few hours later and again it was negative! I don't think that it is too early to take the hpt so I don't know if I should be nervous still or not. I guess I'll wait a few more days...

    Hi,

two Negative pregnancy test most likely means you are not pregnant hun. I was 4 days late this month and myself I started to freak out, we just had our 3rd baby 3 months ago today so when I was 4 days late I got a little freaked. I took a HPT and it was negative, so I just told myself to not think about it and wait. once I did that my period came. You need to stop stressing you can actually prolong your periods by being stressed out and thinking about it all the time. Just relax and go on with life as normal and it will come. Is this a US site? I don't know I am from Canada so I don't know how things work in the US if you are there. But here in Canada if you go to a walk in clinic they will do a Urine test for you for free save money on buying HPT. Just go there they will tell you too pee in a cup and they will do the test for you this way you have no worries weather you did it right. Let us know how things go for you. And remember try not to worry yourself, and I am sure it will come.

yea. weird that congrats for having a period would fit into a situation. heh

I hope you take from this a couple of things...
Never have sex with a tampon inserted. Most are not lucky enough to be able to remove them themselves after and the risk of infection is so much higher.
Please use protection/birth control if pregnancy is not on your to do list right now. Just speaking from experience, you can only dodge the "bullet" so many times then get caught. If babies arent your plan right now, its easy to prevent.
