When you are married you are 1. So you should know everything. He shouldn't have to turn to anyone but his wife that's why your his wife to be his life partner. He sounds like a liar. You aren't wrong for wanting to know everything and you deserve to know everything.
The fact that he owns the business does put a different slant on it. His unwillingness to be open does make him look more like he has something to hide. The simple fact is that without trust you don't have much. What are the chances he is hiding assets as well as a relationship? Personally I'd start pulling together information and making copies of important docs. What is the business structure? Can you access financial records?
I will repeat if you can't work through this you'll have to walk. Make sure you don't walk with nothing.
