Oh man I've been totally guilty of giving AND receiving the "Look". Most of the time, when I see it, it's done it a totally judgemental way. Women are so competitive and get jealous over every little thing, so if they see another woman (whether they're more attractive or not)... they have to give the once-over to find something to pick on. Then that self esteem magically goes right up. It's childish but it happens. I'm not as malicious in that way... I do it when someone makes an awful fashion faux pas though haha. Like shoulder pads. I can't believe I still see those.![]()

To tell you the truth I've never understood it either. It must just have something to do with esteem and wanting to find something on someone you find attractive that 1) either you can change on/in yourself to enhance your appearance, 2) hoping you find something negative to make you feel better about yourself. or 3) (and what I prefer) is trying to find something of interest to spark a conversation. I'm as guilty as anyone at commenting about pretty shoes or jacket or blouse but only really when it's obvious that it's something different. I also tend to look because I appreciate beauty, especially in women (read into it what you want) so sometimes I just look to admire.
"The Look" though is different and I don't recall consciously doing it after maybe 16 because at that age I realized there was no one better than me as a person and I wasn't better than anyone else. haha
