My boyfriend is so cheap we have to split the check when we go out, should I dump him? I told him from the beginning that I hate cheap guys and that I stop dating guys that are cheap. I dont talk about this with him because it makes me angry. Any advice?

How long have you been together? What do you both do for work? What other things do you split the costs on?

I think it's more "modern" to split checks, especially if you earn roughly the same amount of money. My boyfriend and I split EVERYthing, or at the very least take turns paying for stuff. It's only fair. I'm not a princess after all.

I think it also depends on how often you go out and do stuff. If its pretty frequent like a couple times a week, it would be hard for anyone to afford! You shouldnt date a guy for his money. Maybe he is on a budget to save up for something important. There is a difference between a guy being careful with his money and using you for yours. As long as you're not paying for the whole check, I think you need to relax a little and realize, dating is not about the money.

Splitting the check doesn't always have to be viewed negatively upon. Look at is as a way of giving thanks for taking the time to come out to eat with you. I agree with Lizz on this as well, alot of people now-a-days like to like, or have, to live on a budget. If you REALLY are curious as to why the checks are split, ask politely and don't threaten him with dumping him, it wouldn't end pretty.
