Ok, so my new boyfriend informed me a week ago that while he is giving me oral or while we are having intercourse that I hold my breath for long periods of time! I didn't even know I did this! Over the weekend while we were having sex I now notice I do this and upon trying to stop it my focus went elsewhere and sex just became not so good, even while masterbating this morning I noticed it and couldn't finish! Does anyone have this holding breath issue or had it and figured out a way to corrrect it? I am a gal that thouroughly enjoys all aspects of sex and this new revalation is F-ing up my pleasure!
Any suggestions??? |

Do you feel like you are going to pass out? If not then I would not worry too much about it. Lack of O2 to the brain has probably been enhancing your sexual encounters. It not not abnormal... I have noticed that I do this too. I don't find it to be a problem. As long as you breath occasionally (or gasp
) and you breath normally when you are finished then you should be ok. As long as you are normal your body should not let itself go without O2 long enough to cause any type of damage.

Well I sometimes feel a little light headed could be from the lack of O2! My bigger concern is how to get my focus off of it and back on just enjoying what we are doing? The bf said its a wee bit distracting to him to as it worries him!

Well you could try making an effort to make more noise during your sexual encounters. If you empty your lungs then you have to fill them again right?
Many men find that hearing women make noise during sex is a plus for them. It sounds almost like he is pretty worried. Def. let him know what I said in my last post. It should help him if he knows it is fairly normal. Making some noise even just small moans as a regular part of your sexual encounters turn the breathing thing from something distracting to an actual part of the experience. When you start to feel lightheaded... do you automatically take a breath? If so then your body is working as it should to take care of the problem. If you monitor yourself throughout the day I would not be surprised if you found that you held your breath any time you were extremely engrossed in some activity. It is a sign of intense concentration. Your concentration on sex might be a little MORE intense than with other activities, hence the occasional lightheadedness but it is nothing to worry about. If you need to, talk to a health care professional about it. Also, as an added note to help you both feel better... even if you DID manage to hold your breath so long you passed out during sex your brain would automatically take over as soon as you were unconscious and force you to start breathing again as long as your airway is not blocked. |

when you excersize your breathing is very important to keep up your energy level, i asume this is important during sex as well. i have found that learning to control my breathing while excersizing was kind of difficult, but i eventually figured it out.... i think you will too just give it some time. some people tense up to help them reach the big "O" but if you learn to relax and just let it happen, the holding your breath thing should go away.
