Question sharp pain during deep penetration...

Hello, I am 23 years old and would say pretty healthy overall. I was in a relationship for about a year, in which we rarely had sex, and we recently broke up. A couple nights ago i had sex with a guy and felt sharp pains during deep penetration. I was fully lubricated, and there was no pain upon insertion, but with every deep thrust (he was on top the whole time) there was a very sharp pain (although not totally unbearable). I have experienced this before, usually doggy-style, with my last boyfriend, although this was worse, and his penis was larger than my ex's. Also, with my last boyfriend, regular missionary-style sex (among other positions) was very pleasurable and I felt no pain at all.

Like I said before, I consider myself to be pretty healthy. I've never had an STD or any vaginal infection, minus a couple minor yeast infections years ago. I have no current or history of abnormal discharge, and experience no abdominal tenderness in any other situation. Sex in general is not painful and is pleasurable, it is just the very deep penetration that causes the sharp pains. Could this be attributed to the fact that my last boyfriend and I rarely had sex, coupled with the fact that this new guy's penis was rather large, and my vagina is simply tender and not used to being penetrated so deeply?

Thank you,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Go see your Doctor, often some women have what is called a tilted uterus which comes and goes, and this causes huge pain if deep penetration occurs... It's normal, nothing to worry about and unfortunately nothing you can do either about it.

It comes and goes.. But if this is the case, you need an explanation so you can change positions if this occurs, I believe it can be before periods or after, can't recall...

Thank you for your reply. I will be seeing a doctor soon. I am hoping this could be it, however during past gynecologist visits, she made no mention of this. Do gynecologists usually look for a tilted uterus upon routine examination?

As you did....

I had it at one stage, can't recall it coming back though, and no, my Doctor picked it up when I described the problem, for me, it was also sitting down sometimes, I had to sit on my left or right hand side, not directly on my um butt and usually it was whilst periods were about to happen... But, it was some time ago and I do recall the Doctor saying that it doesn't stay with you or cause pain always, and that I can vouch for as I said, can't recall when it last happened, it does correct itself.

okay, thank you. It's not all the time with me either, at least with my ex-boyfriend...and this guy i recently had sex with was rather large, and we only had sex once, so I am hoping that's all the problem is. Nonetheless, I will go to the doctor for sure, just to be safe.

You can get a surgery called the UPLIFT procedure to reposition the Uterus but its a new thing and not a lot of docs do it. Im considering bc everytime I have sex in the missionary position the penis hits my cervix (thats the pain you are feeling) and its horrible. Hope this helps
