Unhappy Bleeding after sex - very worried!!!

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice, or if anyone else has had the same thing.

I've recently started in a new relationship and a couple of days ago we slept together for the first time. It was the first time I'd had sex in 2 years, and although it was a great experience, it was rather rough. Afterwards I was absolutely mortified to discover there was blood all over the sheets, and it'd come from me.

I'm currently taking the contraceptive pill and am due for my next period in a few days, but this didn't seem like what that was as it stopped pretty soon afterwards. I had a smear a few months ago which came back normal, and an ultrasound which revealed I had a small but benign ovarian cyst.

I have a doctors appointment in a couple of days time, for something else, but I'm going to talk to them about it then too. But in the meantime, just to settle my worries, has anyone been through the same thing? Is it possible that that sort of thing could simply be caused by 'over-enthusiastic' sex? I have previously been treated for chlamydia, but everything is clear now.

Any help, advice or suggestions would be most welcome before I convince myself that I'm a freak or that I'm going to die.

Thank you x

I used to bleed during sex. It lasted 2 years. I found out that I had a thickened endometrial lining that would not fully shed during my period. They wanted to put me on progesterone to shed it or do a D&C. I took a week or so to decide and it's a good thing I didn't do anything during that time because I found out I was pregnant about a week later. After I gave birth the bleeding after sex started to return so I went back to the doctor....this time a naturopath. He did some blood work and as it turns out, I had very high estrogen levels which causes the thick endometrial lining. He put me on some supplements and a natural (bio-identical) progesterone and after about 3 months, and a very bad period, things have been fine since.

I would go get checked out. They'll probably do an ultrasound.

Thanks for your reply. Funnily enough I had an ultrasound just ebfore Christmas and the woman there told me I had a small ovarian cyst - but then I heard nothing about it which is why I'm going to go and talk to the doc. Also around the same time I had a smear too, which was incredibly pain and resulted in bleeding everywhere again...the nurse tried to tell me it was my period, but I knew full well it wasn't. Hmm...sounds like it's all related really, oh dear :-(
