Undesirable pregnancy

Hi i'm 22 and i've been for 6 months with Claire (my girlfriend). Last month we begin to have sex without any contraceptive method. To be more precise we start without condom and after some time when i wear a condom not to have any accident. Nevertheless there have been times that we didn't use any condom or any pills or anything else whatsoever. Last week i started to feel a bit nervous so i wanted to ask what are the chances to get her pregnant if i don't ejaculate inside her. I have heard that you have to ejaculate inside so that the sperm get into the womb but i'm not so sure. So have i any good reason to feel nervous?

If you have unprotected sex, whether you come or not, there is a very high probability that she'll get pregnant. Better to be safe, from the get-go than sorry.

Use some form of protection, if nothing else to keep your mind at ease. You don't need to ejaculate inside to make her pregnant, it's much easier than it seems. It's good that you are nervous about it. Have a discussion with her and agree on a method for the sake of both of you.

Ok, I understand being cautious with advice on these forums, but let's not get carried away here. What you just said it utter nonsense. In fact, the likely hood that his girlfriend would get pregnant like this is VERY LOW.

Research shows that pre-ejaculate usually contains NO SPERM. It's an old wives tale that it does.

Now, does this mean I suggest people have unprotected sex with whoever they want? No.

But if someone is asking if this behavior would likely result in his girlfriend getting pregnant, I would say no. People have to learn more about a woman's reproductive system, and their monthly cycle. The truth of the matter is that if a woman has a very regular cycle (like my wife does), you can quite accurately know exactly when she is fertile, and when she is not.

For a quick example, in the 72 hours before a woman gets her period it is extremely unlikely she can get pregnant. My wife and I have unprotected sex during times like this, and she's not pregnant. Obviously we'd be ok if she did get pregnant though, but the truth is it's unlikely.

I agree that it all depends on timing, and YES, we do have to use caution here, however, to be fair... Studies are studies, research is research, because there are just as many studies out there that show pre-ejaculate DOES contain sperm, granted by a very very small amount, but we all know it only takes one strong little swimmer. So, who's to say that saying the pre-ejaculate DOES NOT contain sperm is the old wives tale?

Personally, I feel that research and studies all seem to have the desired outcome of the interests of the people funding the study. I'm not just saying this, but I'm sure if we scoured the internet, we'd find a study proving the sky is actually green, sanctioned by the Green is Good Committee.

Just me .02. Personally, I do feel pre-ejaculate does contain sperm and can get you pregnant, I feel I do also speak from naive 17 year old experience.

I think the debate of the effectiveness of the withdrawal method can go back and forth forever. There are studies that both confirm and disprove that this method is an effective form of birth control. Both sides have their proof, one way or another.

On the other hand, there is NO QUESTION about the effectiveness of modern birth control (condoms, spermacides, diaphrams, pills, etc, etc, etc...). So why take the chance with timing and withdrawal methods? It is an indisputable fact that condoms and other forms of birth control reduce the chance of pregnancy when used correctly, no question. So why not use these proven methods that are readily available to you? Especially when it is so obvious that the risk of pregnancy is making you nervous and would be an unwelcomed outcome to having sex.

I got pregnant 2 days before my period (with a very regular cycle) using the withdrawl method, so it's not non-sense.

I can't help but ask some questions here. How do you know for certain you got pregnant 2 days before your period? Does that mean you didn't have sex the prior 2 or 3 weeks?

Also, pulling out is effective as long as the guy actually pulls out in time. A lot of times the guy is a little late, or says he pulled out in time, when in fact he really didn't pull out before any ejaculation occurred.

I'm just saying there is always a little more to the story, and while it is possible a woman can get pregnant 2 days before her period arrives, it's very unlikely in most cases.

Yeah, "it hasn't happened to me so obviously it cannot be true" is clearly evidence that others should think the same thing. A woman can get pregnant at any point in her cycle, just because it happens more frequently after ovulation does not mean it is not going to happen any other time. Sure you can try to work around cycles or manipulate them but the fact remains that if her body is physiologically able and ready to accept pregnancy then it is going to. It is very unlikely to get pregnant after a surgical snip snip or a tubal ligation but there are woman who would love to introduce their 'it is very unlikely you will have' babies.

The fact is, anything can happen. Some people get lucky, some people get unlucky, sometimes the full moon passes over, whatever

If you want to be certain (or greatly decrease your odds), use birth control in addition to pulling out. If you aren't ready in case there was an "accident", you should take precautions to try to prevent any accidents. (whatever the odds are)
