u can go to Reuter..26th march2010...online site or ....BMJ site....
needanswers99. I visited the BMJ site. You have to be a member, and you get a free trial and then after that, you pay monthly in order to read, their conclusions.

Now, they have admitted that their conclusions are based on research and they need "our" input to give those answers. So it's not science, rather, people that have commented on what has occurred to them.

It pays to be careful of what you read, Wiklipedia on the other hand will always tell you the truth.

Yes, the HPV causes cancer. But it's really the partner who you engage with who gives you the cancer. There is no danger whatsoever with a clean partner.

The thing here is that it isn't blowjobs that cause cancer. It's a viruis that you can get through oral sex that causes it. Just another reason to be careful and make sure you want to have sex with somebody.
This is more to the point. Personally? There is nothing wrong with your thread, you saw something that frightened you and you chose to share that with other Women on Women's Health and you are correct. But as posters have pointed out, this is due to those male partners, using their penis for sex, without a condom and transmitting things across to women.. We all know this can occur, through the vagina as well as oral, through the mouth..

I think that you need to consider, once you have a partner that you feel safe with, that will not cheat on you, has good hygiene then you really have an extremely slim chance of getting any oral deceases, cancer or other... As, you do getting any vaginal deceases..

What you do have to watch out for, is that you don't become a hypochondriac, always worried about deceases of any form and stop living.

Again as others have pointed out, chemicals can give you cancer, your underarm deodorant can give you cancer, as it has aluminum in it, which is known to be harmful, coloring your hair can give you cancer, smoking as you state, can give you cancer (that's an addiction) which I think is a bit different.. Vegetables which have been grown using pesticide can give you cancer the list goes on and on and on.

Well I think women will always make excuses. (edit)
Judging again I see? No "people" will always make excuses..

Let me ask you though, if you had a real fear, would you stop doing something?

Most people would...unless it's an addiction of sorts, as naturally that's harder, and there people at least "think of it"...if not "try" ..

Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
    It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.

Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
    you must believe!

Whats natural is not relevent to the topic. If hpv can lead to cancer where its caught... does it matter whether that cancer is in the throat or the vagina? Either would be bad, so if there is anything to take away from that study or any is safe sex, or practicing sexual acts only in a monogmous relationship... be it oral vaginal or in the elbow.

Is it natural to brush your teeth? We weren't born with a tooth brush... yet we brush them. Is bathing natural? We didn't come equipt with a tongue and the flexibility to wash ourselves like a cat. The list could go on and on and on.

You have made it clear that you personally don't find oral sex natural. That's your opinion. You don't need to kiss to make a baby but people still do it. A man doesn't have to caress your breasts to make you pregnant... but its a part of love making for many couples.

I think its great to raise awareness that people should be cautious that hpv can also be spread orally and limiting partners or practicing monogomy and/or safe sex with lower your risk factors... but to use that article as a platform to call oral sex unatural is something else entirely.

I wasn't offended by your post, no need to appologize for stating your opinion... but scare tactics never succeed at getting people to pay attention, especially not when slathered in opinion disguised as facts.

Several animals practice anal and oral sex, btw.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

I reckon there's a better chance of poking yourself in the eye with a weenie and sustaining an injury than there is of catching oral cancer.. but, as with all things, make sure you know what you're putting in your mouth.

    *dying laughing*

"Natural" sure is a good word, with so many connotations...I'm one of those weirdos who uses "natural", petrochemical- free cosmetics and beauty products, avoids processed foods, ect...but I never thought twice about putting my dh's winkie in my mouth. Like it too much, I guess.

In my opinion, you have a very cut and dried view of what's natural and what's not. What you consider unnatural might be totally natural for someone else. Carmine is natural (it's a ground up South American beetle that is in 99% of cosmetics) but that doesn't mean I want to smear it on my face.

I didn't get the feeling that anyone was/is attacking you for your viewpoint (my dear) ; I'm certainly not. In the end, we all do what we are comfortable with and that's ok.

I just want to point out that as far as I can tell, the article refers to cancers in both men and women- so this is not just about bj's- its about all oral sex- and I think I can safely say my wife would need a lot more proof than this before giving up her oral orgasms. It also appears that this is linked to the HPV virus, which there is now a vacination for- so young women- who should be vacinated- should be protected in the future.

One last note- this is one study- and even the study doesn't conclusively determine cause and effect- nor does this article provide numbers- i.e. a 22 percent increase sounds high, but if the chance started out at 1 per million, a 22 percent increase would still be less than 2 percent per million.

So where is the scientific proof? aka the research articles? A fear mongering online news article (which are notorious for misinterpreting data) does not do much for "scientific proof". You need statistics, you need cellular and biochemical data, you need the actual published peer reviewed article that is more than "well guess what this is another possible cancer source".

note. I am not trying to bash anything I am a person who loves to read research articles, especially cancer related ones.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
