Men who prefer masturbation to sex.

I've been reading a little bit, here and there, and the results are hugely disappointing. The number of men who prefer masturbation to real sex is quite high.

Their reasoning is that:

- During masturbation they can come up with fantasies they cannot enjoy with anyone else, they have control over them and those fantasies have no limits. Also, nobody else knows what they fantasize about and this can be anything, from another woman to group sex.

- Since they are the ones doing all the work during sex anyway, they might as well do all the work by themselves and not have to feel pressured about their performance.

- Their hand knows exactly what to do and doesn't talk back.

- Their penis enjoys masturbation more than intercourse.

- They don't have to satisfy anyone else, except themselves.

- They can masturbate several times a day, whereas sex is too tiresome.

- Men are not monogamous by nature but many men choose to be monogamous. By masturbating they save their relationship by fantasizing about cheating instead of acting on it.

After reading such stories, articles (even newspaper articles) and opinions I must say I'm very disappointed, if not disgusted, in men. Those were not men who masturbated because their partner was unavailable, or because they were turned down, or because of another relationship issue. They just preferred masturbation to sex and many of them found it hard to openly admit it.

Its rediculous, no wonder they would find it hard to admit. Thats like fantasizing about winning the lottery and all the things you'd do with the money but ripping up the ticket if you actually won it.

I can't imagine preferring masturbation to sex with a willing partner, and I think I'm in the majority. Consider - if most men preferred their own hands why would prostitution have been popular in most cultures for most of human history? Why would men pay to have sex with a woman when they could satisfy themselves.

I'm sure there are some men who prefer it, just as there are people with all sorts of fetishes, but I also think that is a small minority - which could still be millions).

I agree with rcoreyus. A willing partner (not one that is responsive as a log) would be much more preferable than the other. Unfortunately some of us get stuck in relationships where that is all we get. If one had a ready and willing partner, I can't see how or why one would prefer that to being by themselves.

For the record being alone is okay but the act of being with a willing partner and sharing such pleasure is many times better.

I think the difference in today's western societies is that prostitution is very much a taboo for most men and that pornography along with masturbation has taken over as a major form of sexual release for many men. Real sex in a relationship may be more fun, but a man is more vulnerable in it and it takes a lot more work.

Are there any anthropological looks at the inroads of pornography and masturbation in societies that still have openly available prostitution at price that won't bankrupt?

Being with a woman is just indescribably better than masturbation! Being with a woman in a loving relationship is far better still. There is so much more to sex than hands...

I certainly don't prefer it. I'd rather wait for my partner(sometimes that's a long wait!) .I think that a man should only produce his fluid when in the company of his partner. Either inside her vagina or on her hand or mouth, or anyhwhere on her body. Mastrurbation should be the last resort. For those who don't have partners at the time. That's my view anyway.

Being with a women beats masturbation hands down. I only reason I can think of would be in a case where the women just lays there and never tries to put some effort or new life, moves whatever into the sex partnership (team work). Then i could see how his imagination and hand maybe more exciting after a time.

An interesting point. In some Asian societies though (I'm pretty sure about Thailand and Japan - NOT from personal experience though ) prostitution is still inexpensive and common, but porn is also widely available.

I think prostitution is fairly common in the US - seem to remember that some New York high official was caught with a $4000/night call girl - destroyed his career. If he preferred his hand, why spend the money and take the risk?

RC: almost by definition a high official has a massive ego and many if not most high officials don't believe the rules apply to them. But assuredly, he was also paying for a relationship he could control and discretion as much as someone that excited him.

I don't know about Japan, but Thailand still has laws that makes true pornography an underground industry internally. However, calendars from machine shops and such have stunning airbrushed models that put Playboy to shame IMHO. That being said, true pornography is spreading internally, from the internet and with cell phones.

The question remains, as pornography increases, will masturbation take over and prostitution mostly disappear for the local populace?
