Default Why does my wife lie about masturbating?

My wife and I have a great sexual relationship. Prior to her current pregnancy we had sex more than twice a day. That was almost three months ago. Since our last pregnancy ended in miscarriage she's concerned about having sex during the first trimester. Naturally, I agreed to wait until she felt more comfortable (hopefully at the end of the first trimester!).

Now our relationship is very healthy, we enjoy watching adult movies together and even masturbate together.

My concern is that even when you consider our healthy sexual relationship, my wife continues to masturbate in bed while I lay next to her. But she does this in secret. I've witnessed it nightly (2-3 times a night) and when she showers. When I try to join in, she pretends like she wasn't doing anything. When I ask her if anythings wrong she says no.

When I ask her if she was "playing" she denies it and usually comes up with an excuse "I had an itch" or "I just had my hands there". Had I not witnessed her "itching" for several minutes, coupled with sighs and tense muscles upon orgasm, I would leave it alone.

Why would she lie about her "extracurricular" activities? I'm also concerned with the possibility of an affair. Twice during foreplay I've noticed what appeared to be semen coming from her vagina. She told me she watched a [adult] movie earlier and was very aroused. Does vaginal fluids sometimes look like semen? I'm not naive, but don't want to falsely accuse...

Yes, vaginal fluids look very much like semen, plus during pregnancy, there is a bit of discharge regardless. On top of that, in my experience, my genitals were extremely sensitive during pregnancy. Steer clear of falsely accusing a hormonal pregnant woman of an affair based on completely common discharge.

Maybe she just feels odd that she needs the release so much during pregnancy, like I said, very sensitive down there, so she may be getting aroused very easily.

I didn't want to ramble, but this has been going on for a long time. I tell her that she should feel comfortable if she needs to release. I told her that if she didn't want me to interfere she should let me know and I would let her be. Its difficult to lie next to someone you really love and know they are seeking sexual gratification without you. I told her how I feel, but she tells me that she doesn't masturbate.

You are young, your wife is highly sexed - as was mine. I discovered my wife numerous times masturbating even though we had a good sex life. Once, like you - I found a very heavy, semen-like 'load' in her crotch and wondered if someone could have, somehow snuck into the house while I was in the basement working. I would really, really not accuse her of infidelity. Most likely she has masturbated for as long as she can remember and has always gotten away with it. She may have been made to feel guilty about it when she was young and that is why she lies. As long as she is not doing it instead of having sex with you, let it go and enjoy - give her that little bit of privacy.

emptypea2001: I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that we were a young couple, but we are both mature adults in our thirties. I appreciate all input here, which is why I came here in the first place; however, in my defense, I never intended on accusing my wife of infidelity. I made the point to express my desperation for answers. The idea about her being humiliated at some point in her life is very possible and I thank you for the idea. With regards to your "Privacy" remark...how much privacy could one expect while masturbating next to their lover....whom, by the way, they just declined to have sex with?

I guess time will tell. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond.
