Here's the secret... don't take him all the way in your mouth. Instead, let your drool run down his shaft (or you can use lube), use your hand to stroke him while your mouth focuses just on the head. You can also mix it up by running your tongue along the underside of his penis, lick and suck his balls, play with his anus (if he's into that). Point being, you don't have to take all of him into your mouth, it often does trigger the gag reflex and can be uncomfortable. There are ways around that.

I'll provide a guy's perspective. There's a way you can do a bang up job without tiring your jaw or getting cum in your mouth. It works best with your partner lying down with his penis lying flat along his body. You put your mouth on the underside of it and move up and down the shaft flicking your tongue quickly across the skin. You then increase the intensity by staying on the underside of the head. When he cums it will squirt sideways from your mouth and you won't have to deal with it. To me it feels better than a conventional bj.
