    Exclamation Possible STI ?

I went for a sexual health screening today and discovered I have an infection - the nurse described it as pus around the opening to the cervix and said it may be chlamydia but I'll know for sure when the results come back.

I text my ex-boyfriend, who i was 99.9% sure I had got this from and he said he's been checked up and is clear. I have no idea who else I could have gotten it from because my other sexual partners have been clean (i know this sounds trusting, but i know for definate they are).

Is there any way you can get an infection down there that isn't sexually transmitted or isn't as they say an 'STI'? Other than my ex-boyfriend lieing, the only other explanation I can come up with is it not being sexually transmitted but I dont know if thats possible.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Were you having any symptoms?

Also- a word of advice. If you think your ex gave it to you, you may want to contact the other people you had sexual contact with so they can get tested too.

Well, I would assume your discharge is green or yellow?

Any change in the balance of normal bacteria in the vagina can affect the smell, color, or texture of the discharge. These are a few of the things that can upset that balance:

    antibiotic or steroid use
bacterial vaginosis, which is a bacterial infection more common in pregnant women or women who have multiple sexual partners
    birth control pills
    cervical cancer
chlamydia or gonorrhea, which are sexually transmitted infections
    diabetes
douches, scented soaps or lotions, bubble bath
    pelvic infection after surgery
    pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
trichomoniasis, which is a parasitic infection typically caused by having unprotected sex
vaginal atrophy, which is thinning and drying out of the vaginal walls during menopause
vaginitis, which is irritation in or around the vagina
    yeast infections

Yeah, it was tinged slightly yellow.

So this infection could be one of those you stated? Which dosen't nessecarily mean its an STI?

Not necessarily...There are many reasons that cause yellow vaginal discharge. Some important causes include ovulation, emotional distress, and sexual excitement; they all results in increased amounts of such secretion. To prevent such issues every woman must keep her genital area dry and clean. Also, it is advisable to use condoms to avoid STDs. One should not douche after menses or sexual intercourse and should have regular tests.

Other diseases and conditions that bring yellow vaginal discharge include:

    Cervical polyp
    Pelvic inflammatory disease
    Vaginitis
    Sexually transmitted disease
    Cervicitis - yellow vaginal discharge
    Gonorrhea
    Trichomoniasis
    Chlamydia - yellow vaginal discharge
    Foreign body
    Vaginal cancer
