Can you get pregnant without having intercourse?

My best friend is pregnant. And she is claiming she didn't actually have sex with the father (the guy is her ex-brother in-law). She says she was just sleeping in his bed naked and he must have masturbated in his sleep and some semen must have traveled into her and impregnated her. I find this all rather fishy.

Has anyone heard of this happening or have any scientific evidence to support this?

Can airborne semen actually impregnate someone?

Can semen travel far distances?

Wouldn't the air kill off the sperm?

I want to believe her, but it sounds weird.

We don't sleep naked with brothers in law, ex or otherwise generally. We don't sleep naked with men we don't plan to have sex with usually either. Most of us don't share a bed naked or otherwise with men we aren't willing to have sex with.

I doubt he masturbated in his sleep. She could have masturbate him when he was asleep and then was careless with the semen, or more likely he masturbated himself while she was asleep and got the semen on her. Maybe he masturbated himself and started playing with her with some semen still on his hands.

There is a lot more to this story. Keep on asking for her to go over it again and point out inconsistencies. See how the story changes.

She should have really thought that story out before telling it. She obviously doesn't give people enough credit to know how exactly baby making happens.

I get what you guys are saying, but she seems so convinced and I'm not sure why she would lie to me. I know there was Tequila involved, which always leads to bad things and it's probably how she ended up in his bed. I think in health class when I was young they taught us that semen could travel and you could get pregnant without having sex. I was just wondering if there was any evidence to support this.

If there wasn't a "sexual act" involved, where did the semen come from?

You really don't believe your friend, do you? Really?

Alcohol, two naked people, end up in bed together and nothing happened? Sounds possible but highly unlikely....

If she seems completely convinced then she need to get a little more education about sex and semen and pregnancy. I'm not saying shes ignorant by any means, but I do think she may be a bit confused and has thought it over so much that she is totally convincing herself that she DIDN'T actually have intercourse with him (when in reality she more then likely did if he impregnated her). You noted there was Tequila involved, well that being the case then she may have been intoxicated to the point where she doesn't remember having any sort of intercourse with him. Is she POSITIVE he is the father? Has she been with anyone else within the appropriate time frame of when she would have found out she was pregnant.
