hi, i was diagnosed with hpv when i was in my 20's and the sad thing is the guy that gave it to me is now a doctor, i had one or two warts or whatever break out every couple of months but it really in all honesty seemed to stop when i settled down with one man, i have not had a breakout in so long i forget to tell md's about it. don't stress hopefully your body will handle it like this too.

Is that something you want to make someone else go through? Many people may only have one outbreak of symptoms, but many other people will have repeated recurrences throughout their life. So it's not something that should be looked at as similar to a common cold. Not only that, but it is dangerous for women because once you have the virus, your risk of cancer significantly increases.
It can go away on its own. As for telling other partners, that is your descion. But I highly doubt that men tell their partners if they know they have been infected.

Most sexually active people will have HPV at some point in their lives, though most will never know it because it usually has no symptoms and goes away on its own.

There is no "cure" for HPV infection, although in most women the infection goes away on its own.

HPV infections usually go away or are suppressed by the body, without causing any lasting problems.

My bad... I was thinking of the Herpes virus... that's the one that never goes away. You can still have HPV for an unknown amount of time with an unknown amount of recurrences though. The CDC link is a very good one by the way.

Is it possible to contract the HPV virus other than from sexual contact? Can the body produce it on its own and cause cervix cancer?
