Default where the wetness in vagina comes from during sex ?

Just wondering. I read somewhere saying it helps the male partner to protect him from infections. Is it true? How ?

The wetness comes from secretions from the vaginal walls. I do not believe it helps protect a man from infection, not sure where you would have heard that from. If anything a wet environment allows for easier spread of infection from partner to partner. But being wet does not automatically mean someone will become infected with something, it simply means if someone is already infected it makes it easier to spread around.

If I remember correctly, the vagina actually has no glands of its own. Vaginal secretions are either due to mucus from the cervical glands and/or from blood circulation which seeps out of the pelvic vasculature during arousal.

Yes cervical mucus plays a role, in general secretions come from vaginal walls near the cervix and the cervical area itself. Little bit of everything really lol, muscle stimulation, certain spongy tissues, cervix, vaginal muscles, and psychological aspects can play a role by leading to arousal which leads to hormone release which leads to secretions, everything kinda ties together to create the secretions. It is simply easier to say that secretions come from the vaginal walls and general area.

See also Bartholin's gland and Skenes gland. The former releases only a drop or two of fluid, the latter's function isn't fully understood. Wiki the names for a description.

Most lubrication is from plasma seepage from the vaginal wall according to wiki.
