    Default Does pornography degrade women?

    A genuine question.

I don't really know what to believe, I suppose every instance is it's own. I hear women say they could never even consider sex for money, I see women who enter relationships for money and presents, and I've even heard an escort say "and you get an extra ?200 if you shag them, and you can shag like 10 men in a night! That makes over ?2000 a night!!!".

Obviously women all feel differently about the subject, I was hoping to gather some of your opinions. Firstly, is the actor herself degraded, even if she chooses it without being pressured somehow, and do the acts of some women degrade the rest?

Personally, I think if you don't have a problem with it and it's a good way to make money, more power to you. I'd have thought it's degrading men for being dumb enough to hand over cash to see some skin. Surely this puts the woman in the position of power over the men...

    Anyway, opinions?

If the person has no problem with it, then I think- fine. But the women in the videos look sore! I am sure it is not always as much fun as one may think. They all look sorta bored sometimes in some pornos...and the women are obviously faking it 90% of the time IMO. It's *work*! LOL....but some videos are better than others. Degrading? No. Probably not true, IMO.

There is a wide range of pornography. Some is just generic professionals, with people having sex for money. Some is quite abusive, taking advantage of women (and men) who are poor and can't find other income. Some is basically exhibitionists getting some money (or not) for what they would want to be doing anyway.

I think one of the things that makes debates over pornography so touchy is that people are thinking of different things when they argue.

I consider pornography to be essentially the same as prostitution. If regulated, and if the people are not coerced, then fine. But like prostitution it has a very nasty side.

Well, I am thinking of the stuff I watch which is either the big stars (and I imagine decent money for the actors) or amateur porn that looks like it is done for fun. I don't watch anything too offbeat. Truth is though, everyone has to make money....and I am sure some of them would rather not be doing it....but, heck, I don't want to do what I do most days.

    Default Problem, yes

Honestly, If I could rid the world of porn, I would. Not only do the girls look sore, but underage, uninterested, and things happen that look to be "unplanned" like the dirty sanchez- purely to degrade a woman. I HATE it that my boyfriend watches porn. I have indulged in it, but it has to look like it's a mutual thing. Most that I've seen is always to hurt the woman, or make her a sex slave/subservient. I actually get physically sick thinking about it, and then feel like I"M THE ONE WHOSE DIFFERENT than the rest of the world.

I think people are looking at a lot of different things, and lumping them together as "porn". There is some degrading porn that I find distrubing (but if the participants are willing, I have no reall objection). There is S+M porn - some might be degrading, but most is just play (some people (men and women) LIKE to pretend to be sex slaves). There is a wide range of amateur stuff that looks like couples that realized they could be paid for doing what they would have done anyway.

I can't object to anything where the participants are not coerced. That does not mean that I have any interest in watching the great majority of porn.

I've said this in a post before, but I'll say it again. There is a lot of disgusting and disturbing porn out there. Where, yes, I do feel it is degrading to women. However, if the women are subjecting themselves to it, then whatever. Everyone has your price, for example mine would probably be over half a billion dollars before I even considered it. I am very picky about porn. HATE any kind of voyeur, because that is what I think is degrading, when the women don't know that they are participating. I would rid the world of porn too if I could, but it's here to stay, so I might as well enjoy it.

I read somewhere that a woman gets 1500 per act with a guy 2500 if its anal and with 2 guys.I don't think the guy gets too much maybe 300 dollars. Yes some girls look like they are in absolute agony with all the in out and largeness of it all and the some look and act like they really like it.When a girl is saying OH GOD STOP and grimacing its like a rape scene ....not good. Don't try that at home they should say.

Porn like many things has many different faces from soft, erotic to hardcore. It is my opinion you cannot lump it all under one banner and equally you cannot say that if the movie contains images that you do not like that it is degrading to the woman because we are all different. For example a movie where a women has two men at once may be considered degrading but she may actually enjoy it. While I am not naive enough to think all porn is regulated most of it is and the women who take part have a choice.

I enjoy watching porn, but I only like a certain type where the people look like they are interacting with each other. I watch from a particular site and the women appear to be enjoying themselves, no way is it de-grading.

    Default Choice?

Yes, I agree that being a porn queen IS a choice. I don't however, think that any little girl wakes up at a young age and says, "Mommy, I want to be a porn queen when I grow up".
So, as far as it being a choice of a career for women- I guess I disagree. I don't know any porn actresses personally, but I would ASSUME (I know thats a weak way of conversing) that there is some underlying psychiatric issue that leads these girls into the industry. I'm just babbling, so I'll stop!

I guess the word choice has really got me thinking- what do you all think? Is it a career choice for women to become Porn actresses?
