MyFox Houston | Woman Sues American Airlines for X-Rated Incident
According to Fox News: "The $200,000 suit claims a passenger masturbated in the seat next to Centava Dozier on a flight from DFW International Airport to Los Angeles during Dozier's spring break in 2007. Dozier said she was sitting on an unoccupied row of the plane when it took off and fell asleep. When she woke up, she found a stuck substance in her hair and a man masturbating in the seat next to her." Another one...GOD! I'm so mad I could kill someone. Lewd assault by man at Target inspires new law | Local News | kgw.com | News for Oregon and SW Washington A man threw semen on a woman’s leg while she and her daughter shopped at a Clackamas Target store. The man was caught on surveillance cameras. After turning himself in, he was merely cited and released for a single count of harassment. Now some lawmakers are outraged because of the legal limitations on punishment. State Representative Linda Flores couldn’t believe what happened at that store one week ago. That day 25-year-old Ricardo Faulk assaulted the woman and her 3-year-old daughter in a lewd act. I am so furious I cannot even see straight. These disgusting acts have just been brought to public attention. I am so saddened by all of this I really don't know what to say. What are you guys' thoughts on this horrible stuff? I mean...I don't understand what's wrong with these men. What makes them think this is okay to do?! IT'S UNTHINKABLE. Both in public, one while she was with her THREE YEAR OLD CHILD. And the fact that he was simply cited for assault. I can't put to words how sad this makes me. Thank god I have such a wonderful man in my life, because I'm not sure I could stomach dating with all these disgusting perverts in the world. |

guys get off daily to scenarios far more repulsive than these acted out in porn films. a society that tolerates that fosters this kind of disregard for other people. i agree with you. all the more reason for people to start swimming against the current - the current is obviously not taking us anywhere good. |

I think sexual assault has been around for a very long time. It is easy to forget how many people there are, so evey a tiny percentage of cases can make a lot of media headlines.
I'm not minimizing the importance of the problem, but I don't see anything to indicate that it has gotten worse with time. In a lot of ways it has gotten better. A few hundred years ago, it was just assumed that an invading army would rape every female they could get their hands on. Rape in war still happens, but as a society we consider it abhorent, and at least try to prosecute it when it happens. A few decades ago it was considered normal (if distastefull) for for the "boss" to harass his secretary - even to assume she would sleep with him to keep her job. It still happens, but the law clearly is on the side of the woman in this. There is a long way to go, but a lot of progress has been made. |

Its hard to tell. Society may just be more willing to report on depraved actions. The media will give specifics rather than some generic "assault" or "harassment".
Victorian society was completely unwilling to discuss anythign sexual. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it could not be discussed. Prior to that, I'm not sure. If you go way back, there were things done in Rome that would horrify even the most jaded people today (or at least I hope they would). It is difficult to rate the severity of various sexual assaults - not even clear it makes sense to do so. If not physical injury is done, the severity of the assault depends on how the victim responds. What is horrifying for one person might only be gross to another, and vice versa. |
