    Hi Ladies,
I'm new here. I'm 47 and I've been having symptoms of peri menopause since my tubes were tied about 4 years ago. All of a sudden things changed. My periods became irregular/heavy and long or nothing for months. Worse yet,my moods have been up and down more then ever. I've become irritable, over nothing and somewhat mean, too.Which really bothers me because I
    m not a mean person,normally.

I work for a Doc who told me to think about going on either Paxil or Prozac. I'd like to try natural things but at this point I think I need something that is goingto work, quick. It's effecting my job. I can fly off the handle at co-workers in sec's.

Has anyone gone on either of these meds and if so can you share your experience if they helped ?

    Thank you

    Colleen

Oh, and depressed moods and difficulty sleeping, too. Doc offered me sleeping meds but I refused. I don't want to be on anything that can become addictive. I've gained 40 lbs in two years and my energy is zero.

    Help.

DH and I have both gone through the hormone vrs Mental health Meds problem.

The issue (I think) is that both problems have the same symptoms. If you have hormonal issues you will "look" depressed. And taking mental health meds will make you no longer care about your problems but it doesn't solve the primary issue.

"IF" your really depressed your hormones are going to test ok and seeking help from a mental health person is the way to go but.... There are things like talk therapy that might solve your problem.

I suggest you google Hormone Replacement and in particular look at Bio Identical hormones and a doctor familiar with them. Talk about your symptoms and say that you want to rule out hormone problems before you talk to a mental health person. I use a combination of Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone that does wonders for me.
