I don't know what the deal with "junk in the trunk" is... I'm quite happy with my small butt.

But - yes, toning up can make your butt look larger and just take on a better shape in general.

Try donkey kicks and peeing dogs.

    Donkey kicks:
Get on all fours and extend one foot directly behind. Don't go above level - get your leg as straight as possible. Then, switch and do the other side.

    Peeing Dogs:
Get on all fours and lift one leg (still bent at the knee) out to the side. You'll look like a peeing dog haha. Then switch

Also, try squats with 5lb weights in each hands.

You could try some stiff legged dead lifts. Be sure to keep a slight bend in your knees.

Biomechanically, the squat discipline significantly develops the adductor groups (the inner thighs) and the muscular response in women generally outstrips even the male training effect in this department! So...you're going to get significantly more developed inner thighs doings squats and proportionately..in a standing position, there is little distance to cover, before inner thighs are capable of touching each other.

With a woman's wide hip width this can sometimes even cause problems in 'offsetting' balance in doing certain other exercises or activities, so for a woman wants a better chance of not having thighs that are more likely to chafe together when congested with blood ( the 'pump') during exercise...the single leg lunge is a better biomechanical option as it develops the inner thigh muscles more proportionately and produces a more elliptical thigh shape as compared to the greater possibilities of a chunkier rounded inner thigh from squats.

However, make absolutely 100% certain that your shin ALWAYS stays as vertical as you can possibly keep it, throughout your lunging action. This is very very important, as in the biomechanics of the lunge, the function of the kneecap will be an anti-friction device for the joint articulations between the upper and lower leg, behind the kneecap.

Allow the knee to go forward over the toes even slightly and you diminish the knee cap's anti-frictional capacity and the result......in due course......will be knee problems of one sort or another. Hope this helps generally.

I like this one: lie down on your back with your feet flat on ground and then keep lifting your butt up and down. You will get the best burn ever. I have been doing this like 3-4x a week, usually 3 of 50 reps and man oh man is it ever burning!!!
Also maybe you need to eat some fatty foods and you will get there!

Up the weight slightly on your squats and only do them once a week. Also on the same day you do squats, add in leg presses with whatever weight you can handle. If you have a hamstring curl machine, that could help as well. Keep you leg workouts one day a week to allow plenty of time for healing and growth. As was mentioned above, the donkey kicks work directly on your glutes. Some gyms have a machine for this which is pretty nice because adding weight to the exercise will work your glutes more thus making them bigger.

Being a powerlifter for the past four years I have been trying to get my butt bigger too! I have increased the muscle and power output in my glutes from doing deadlifts! You have to be careful to not hurt your lower back though. The stiff leg deadlifts are definately helpful too! Heavy squats, lunges and deadlifts will make your butt look amazing! Plus you will get some beautiful legs too!
