    Default home or house?

i am thinking this is the place to pose this question if not o-well it can moved to the right place.

i have a theory, a house is just a house. basically a building with walls and a roof for shelter, a place to sleep and shower and store things. UNTILL, you are with another person to share it with. when you find your wife/husband and if you start a family together then it becomes a home.
to me a home is family, love, and more.

is a wierd thought or do many agree with my theory?

I actually agree... with a house just being a house you can move around no problem.. but with a home there is love involved.. you feel more complete.

I've have thought this and even written about it, in fact I think there is an old saying to that effect. A house is just a house until.... Actually just looked there are a couple of poems on that theme.
It is true and sometimes you walk into someone's house and know that's all it is - a house, not a home.

I remember having my own places when young and single and going away for a few days then coming back to the "house" But after having been married when I would go away, the comment was always made, well, it's good to be "home", it just seems to be more of a haven when there's more than 1 or more that makes it sweeter to live there.

There's a scripture that says: "If two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone"?

I think your theory is correct because that is the way you view it.

Maybe because this is my living - houses / homes.....or maybe because my pets are "family", my "houses" are always "my home", i fill them with love, my love, create, my fridge/cupboards looks like 4 people live here, my bathrooms have 2 - 4 towels, my bed has 4 pillows....

My house - where ever I live, looks like a home, because it is, it is my home of which I love to live in, not just sleep in and if i shared it with a loved one? Then it would have his touches as well... Plus dirty socks in the corner, clothes over the chair, etc I am sure, lol.

If your house is just a house, then you have no home to come "home to", it is waiting for that "someone" to live in it and make it a home.

I think if you create a home within your house, you want to come home to it, if you have a house that is bare, just somewhere to sleep, eat, shower, then that is what it feels, empty of something and so, that is how you feel.......

well, yes, a house is simply a shelter. its a place you live in. but it becomes a home when there are things in it that you life for, like family, spouse, etc.

a home maeks you feel safe and comfortable, and you have a sort of attachment to it. a house you can pick up and leave an d go to another one. a home stays with you though, and can be put into other houses. does that maek sense at all?? haha any way that jsut my view

JWB I totally agree, a house is never a home until there is love that is shared within its walls.
Before you criticise someone walk a mile in their shoes and then that way if they get angry they will be a mile away and barefoot

I dissent in part and concur in part. A a single person can have a home, and a married couple can have a house.

It's what you do with a house, how you make it express, reflect, and comfort you as a person, that can make it a home.

Phew... I thought i was alone.... But that's true N01... as I am living alone with my cat and two dogs, and two fish...

I have also seen in selling homes, "married couples, having a" house" no love, no warmth in the house, nothing....

It is, how you express yourself within your home that makes it a home, comfortable and happy and glad to come home to "your home"...

JWB, as a result of this thread, I painted today.. The bits that were blue in my bathroom to white, then ledges in the kitchen and anything else that needed a touch up.. I can't explain how exicted i was at the difference and how it "expressed me" and beauty and "my home"...

I can't explain either to you... Other than my original post... A house is a house if you dont' add love and you to it... It is a home, if you make it "your home" and all that you love about it and what is in it.

    CW

(thanks N01, been bothering me) thought it was only the Real Estate Agent in me, but obviously not)...

    I love my "home"...............

So true, lived in a house, in a marriage for 8 years but it was never 'mine', never really home. It lacked the feeling of harmony and comfort. Been in my apartment less than a year and it is homey, still working on it. There is truth in the statement that home is where the heart is.
