    Default job interview

Okay, I went to a job interview this morning, I felt very good about it until the guy said he wouldn't give me what I was asking (salary-wise). At my current job I'm earning a reasonable salary, complete with 401k, health insurance, etc.. This job that I am pursuing is offering me a insurance package but no 401k. Am I out of line asking for a higher salary?

And should I mention why I deserve a higher pay in my thank you letter?

Ulitimately, it's your decision on whether you take the job or not in what they are offering.

If they pay they are offering is "above board" and at the Award rate, they have the right to offer their package to the prospective employee...

I would firstly check that part out, because you don't want to work for anyone that is underpaying the Award rate of the field you have chosen.

But, to fight for your cause?

I would say to them, I believe that I am what you are looking for, I am good at what I do and you won't be sorry.. However, my current income is x, and if you would like to re-consider, I don't believe you will be sorry...

Gamble, they will say yes, or they will say no....

I say that if you don't want to settle, go for it. Keep in mind that this economy is in a recession.

    Good luck!

Get the book, Women Don't Ask. But why are you interviewing if you have a good position? Does this other job offer more opportunity for the future or some other incentive to change?
