Open-cut rhinoplasty

I had an open-cut rhinoplasty procedure and I am experiencing some discomfort, even two years after the procedure. Ever since the surgery my lip has felt slightly numb, there is a pulling feeling during speech or any type of muscular motion, the septum of my nose has thickened, when speaking the lip doesn't move the same as before and the motion feels much slower.
One of my biggest concerns is that the doctor didn't even tell me he was going to do the open-cut procedure. I am trying to sue the doctor, through a civil court unfortunately, but I need a specialist or someone to testify. I think there should me some kind of policy or a law that requires doctors to inform the patient of both the open-cut and closed procedures. I am stuck with this discomforting feeling on my face for the rest of my life and the doctor gets away with it. There are so many doctors that are getting away with doing this procedure without letting their patients know, and they're making money from it.
If anyone has had open-cut surgery and has had the same post-op symptoms, I would appreciate your opinion and feedback on this topic.

Mila, you are talking about suing someone, anyone that replies to this, has no "disclaimer" nor do you, it won't happen.

I am sorry for what has happened it does sound shonky you do need a very good Lawyer to review what you signed before that operation.

We are not Laywers and we can not help you with providing "simular evidence" due to disclaimers, I can see your pain and concern and will and want but a good lawyer will be able to find all the loop holes if there are any.

Did your doctor by chance add a bone graft in the end of your nose to bring the tip up or remove a bump?

I had this kind of surgery back in the 80s. Actually I had 2 surgeries. The first was reconstructive, my nose had been broken several times and one of my nasal passages had all but closed up. At my consultation the doctor asked me what I wanted it to look like. (my father is Scilian and I had the classic Scilian nose....you know like Danny Thomas had.) I told him that I didn't care so long as I could breathe. He started explaining what he could do..

"Well we can take this bump out and we can add a bone graft in the tip to bring it up a little. The danger with the bone graft is that sometimes they will slip or turn and we'd need to go back in and fix that."

So I agreed to all he wanted to do. And sure enough the bone graft slipped and i had the same issues....numb upper lip, pullng sensation and a lisp. The numbness was because when the bone graft slipped it ended up rubbing against a nerve, which is also what caused the lisp. So I had to have a second surgery to fix the issue. Again it was an open cut procedure because that was the only way to fix it.

I agree that your doctor should have informed you of the procedure he was going to use. Was your surgey supposed to be a standard rhinoplasty or was it considered reconstructive? I ask becaus, as I said, mine was reconstructive, my collapsing nasal passage had to be re-built, so there was no option to do the closed procedure.

I don't know if you can sue. I just know how my surgeon warned me of all the possibilities before doing any surgery. I was referred to my surgeon by a friend and before I even made a consultation appointment I did the research and made the calls to verify that he is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.. This does make a difference. Many doctors are now performing plastic surgery procedures but that doesn't mean that they qualified to perform plastic surgery.
