I've been coloring my hair only 2 years and doing it myself for about a year. Because of sensitivities I only use the non permanent color. When I was having it done professionally it lasted quite a while but doing it myself I have a problem with the hair along the side of my face. Those little short whisps of hair that would be in the sideburn position on a man, just don't keep the color. Within days they have lost some of the color. It isn't really, really noticable but it I 'm curious why this happens. Other wise my hair takes the color pretty well. I use a color that is fairly close to my own and it colors up nicely variated and last 4 to 6 weeks.
Another thing I'm challenged with is shampoo and conditioner. Again the hypersensitivites are a huge issue. I cannot use anything with any form of paraben (a preservative) I also cannot tollerate any perfumey scent, particularly floral, coconut oil cause problems as well. My budget will not stand the really pricey stuff. I was actually using Suave Color Care for a while, it's cheap but it actually doesn't have all the stuff I'm allergic to. I started having a crossover reaction to something and had to quit using it. I've been using Giovanni Triple Treat for years and love it. It says it's for all hair types and seems to be ok with the color. My hair is not damaged in any way, I rarely use a dryer or heat on it. I just don't know much about coloring, is there a reason aside from perhaps having to color more frequently, that the shampoos specifically for colored hair should be used? Or is this mostly advertising hype?
