I thought I would come here and share what is on my heart. I need to talk to others. Here goes ...

I fly for the first time alone in August and I am a bit terrified. I have tried not to think about it ; but it is getting closer now. And as lame as I may sound ... I do not want to get on the wrong flight. There is a 2 hour layover and idle time might make my nerves worse. If it was able to be just a straight flight it wouldn't be so bad.

Sighs. I get this nervous gut and even though I am way better the fear is that it will kick in and I will have to go to the bathroom. As it seems to be automatic. So it is not the flight I am terrified of it is that I will get this nervous gut and be in pain. As I don't want to have any accidents on the plane if you know what I mean. It may be tmi but I get diarrhea and cramping. I don't want this to rule my life though.

I do have other medical problems though (rare heart condition/pulmonary stenosis/osteoporosis). Not sure what is done in the case of needing a wheelchair how far they take you ?

you sound like you have a lot of anxiety. Why do you have to fly? What is it exactly that scares you? You mentioned getting on the wrong flight.... you can't really the attendants check your flight stub along with your ID they would notice.

Have you ever been to the airport to visit? If not then go check out what the flight boards look like. Do a run thru as if you were flying to your destination. The gate won't necessarliy be the same but atleast you will feel like you have done it before and will know what to look for. Maybe you will be less anxious and your stomach won't cramp so much.

I don't know what size airport you are flying out of but if it is a large airport go check it out then you will feel more at ease if its familiar setting . For the two hour layover if you read take a book or a DSL or PSP.

    good luck

Not as much anxiety as I used to but it is still there. It seems to come automatic even though I am excited about going on this trip. Excitement triggers the nervous gut too which kinda stinks.

I am flying out to visit some friends for three weeks. I mentioned the wrong flight even though I know it is probably not going to happen that I might get on the wrong one. However; since you mentioned about the attendants I feel better.

I really hope I can get through it without nervous gut. I guess the fear was that it will kick in ... even though I have been doing all possible through nutrition to keep it from happening (it was like irritable bowel). I have gotten much better about being around people but still ...

I will try to take some music along that might work. Thank you very much ...

Not sure if you will come back and read this, but it also sounds like you have IBS , Irritable Bowel Syndrome..

They don't know the "exact reason" for the decease but speculation and I agree, it's stress related, so anxiety fits into that.

There are peppermint tablets you can get from a Chemist for this, avoid dairy, milk in coffee/eggs/cheese/chilli.... before you go... drink water. Lots.

And, as Joy said, listen to music, they should have ear phones on the plane and channels for TV, kick back and relax, your going to have a great time...
