Ok ive been running for about two weeks now and I am seeing a little increase in my endurance, but i still jump off the treadmill huffing and puffing trying to calm down. i get back on repeatedly and cant go further than five minutes. how can i get past this obstacle? I tried this last year and gave up because of frustration. I dont want to give up. i would like to run outside oneday without the embarrassment of stopping and almost passing out. this is really toning my body especially after almost reaching 300lbs after a c-section. I am down to 250, with a long way to go. my boyfriend encourages me all the time, but I just get frustrated because my endurance is soo short. i wont even let him watch me exercise because i know i will get out of breath. He wants to watch me do everything.

I would have to suggest have patience with yourself and keep up the great work! Sounds like a bit of a mental block and you can get past it a small step each week. Set a goal this week to keep at it for 6 minutes and just keep increasing it when you feel ready. You are giving your body a gift each day by working out congrats to you I started last week! Doesn't it feel amazing!!!

Watch your breathing. On your next workout slow down your pace and be aware of your breathing. Are you holding your breath? Sometimes we do that when exercising and nothing will wind you faster. Your muscles are working and they want oxygen. watch some video's on breathing techniques or read up on it if you find yourself holding your breath.

If you master your breathing you'll have a higher endurance as well. Don't give up you can get past this.

I think its wonderful your bf is soo supportive. Keep up the great work!

Try pyramiding. That would be a cycle of walking briskly, running until you are breathing hard, walking briskly until your breathing and heart rate calm, going back to running. Just keep cycling it. It isn't so much the running, as the continued activitiy that makes the difference, you'll burn more calories and do yourself more good than one short, intense run. Over time you'll find you can go longer and longer.

    Default exercise

i find it hard to lose weight, i get so hot and headachey so quick it kind of puts me off, i cycle on daily bases mainly to go to the library,

i swim once a week, if you get hot the water cools you down, did you know that swimming is the only exercise that loses more calories. it supports your body weight.

i have tried eating a healthier range of foods such as wholemeal bread and breakfast, weightwatches yogurts and bread, apples.

i don't buy biscuits or cake or crisps, because if i'm peckish i go and pig out, so if i don't them i cannot eat them.

the summer weather gives my headaches if i'm out exercising for any length of time.

i find it hard to get motivated being on my own.

I've never been much for running. Whether it's on a treadmill, path, or the streets. An excellent breathing technique I learned in the Air Force may very well help you.

Breathe in for four seconds through your nose and then exhale for four seconds through your mouth.

By breathing through your nose, you're creating a pocket of air inside your lungs that will help you take more oxygen in. By slowly breathing out, you're not breaking the air pockets immediately. You're slowly releasing it. Be conscious of your breathing as well. That'll help.

For weighing as much as you do, that kind of hard work on a treadmill is pretty dam good. Can you switch from the treadmill and move to an elliptical machine? There's less impact on your joints and you get just as good of, if not better, a workout than the treadmill.

While cardio will do a lot of good for you, you have to switch it up. Include some light weight training in your routine if you're not. You'll see more fat come off this way as opposed to just running. Low impact/weight and high repetition will do you a lot of good when in conjunction with your cardiovascular exercises.

If you can afford it, then get a personal trainer at the gym you go to. They'll be able to design a workout regiment for you that will give you amazing results! And also get a physical done to make sure you're not actually stressing your body too much.

One last thing, build up to the time you want to run at. Don't just shoot for one mile in 7 minutes straight away in your current condition. That'll kill you. Take your time and gradually increase the speed and duration of these walks. Then get on a stair climber and do that the same way.

You are on your way to success! You are worth it!

I have recently switched over to a elliptical stepper machine. its like a mixture of both with circular motions. It burns calories quickly and I don't feel any impact on my knees.

I try weights but they seem to make me look more swollen. I have been advised by many professionals to start off low impact because of my weight.
