I've gone without sugar for as long as a year. If you can cut it out for four days - that means no artificial sweetners, fruit juices, soda - nothing sweet- you woll lose your taste and craving for it.
hi everyone. anyone have a problem with sugar addiction?
i'm so addicted to sugar it's scary. sometimes i have to have a dessert after breakfast. breakfast!
somedays i do better, like not having anything sweet until after dinner. but still, i can't seem to go a day without eating anything sugary. fresh fruit doesn't cut it unfortunately (i do love fruit but for me it doesnt feel like a dessert)
any suggestions for how to overcome this? which is better, little steps or cold turkey?
has anyone read diet books like sugarbusters and do they work?
i would love to be one of those people that say "i dont have much of a sweet tooth." (who are these people? haha)
any advice would be so appreciated, thanks!

thanks wildchild. i have heard that it just takes getting past those first few days.i guess that means going cold turkey! i will give it a try!
If you re sugar addict .. you re pretty much doomed!! I go by days without eating normal food i.e sour, salty etc ... I'm a dessert freak .. if I dont have sugar I have absolutely no energy .. my gym trainer made me quit sugar and the next day the max I could stay on teh treadmill was exactly 3 minute 43 seconds .. after that it felt as if I'll die ... and Im someone who can be on a treadmill on an incline for 50 minutes without feeling a thing!!!
You can try being wihout it for a few days but believe me it wont help!! ... and if you do figure out a way .. let me know :P
Part of this is mind set. You have it firmly in your mind that you need the sugar. Truth is that sugar gives you a quick burst of energy and then leaves you depleated, wanting more. It takes more than just removing the sugar, you need a healthy balanced diet.
I am a recovering alcoholic, celebrating my 19th year of sobriety. I have replaced one addiction with another..."SUGAR" I am totally addicted to sugar, and I am scare out of my mind. I really try to stop, but I can't! I yearn for sugar, and when I get it; after consuming quantities of cookies, donuts, cakes etc.. I feel like I had been drinking. Sugar leaves me feeling intoxicated and depressed. I need help.
Norrie 59 you craving for sugar probably started when you quite drinking. There is a lot of sugar in booze. I had a friend that went thru that... quit drinking and craved sweet everyday.
i find i have a "sweet tooth" and a "fat tooth" if you know what i mean. it starts very early if you taste breast milk it is incrediably sweet, can you substitute "bad" sugar for good for example eat some fresh fruit, or plain yoghurt. artificial sweeteners are worse i think than actual sugar, which at least satisfies your sweet craving.
i have a craving for sweet food everyday. i like these
butter tablet (sickly fudge)
tiramasu (dessert with tia maria and cappachino)
fig rolls
galaxy chocolate
i tend to buy them only once when i go shopping every other week.
i find that if i'm hungry i'll have a huge mug of tea, hunger can often be mistaken for thirst, no all the time though.
if after a huge drink, you are still hungry then have something.![]()
i am in the same boat all i do it eat sweets or chips, etc. junk-food-aholic is what i call myself and it's gotten worse the last 3 months that none of my jeans fit me now!
