My son is 14 months old. He goes to bed around 730, 8 at night, and sleeps until 630, 7 in the morning. Then about an hour or two later, he goes for his morning nap for an hour to 2 hours. Stays up for a while, then about 2 in the afternoon, goes back down for another 2 hour nap. I don't know if he's getting too much sleep? But I don't force him to stay up when he's tired, and when starts getting grumpy, I put him in his crib, and he sleeps. But all in all, he sleeps anywhere from 15 to 16 hours a day. This is my first child, and I don't know if this is ok or normal? I figure he's growing, and they need their sleep. But I thought when they got older, that they needed less. Maybe I'm wrong?

Kids cycle on this. There are times you just wish they would sleep! At this age I wouldn't worry, they do what they need. How is he the rest of the time? Is he active? The needing less sleep is few years away. Really, I think most young kids don't get as much sleep as they should, their parents keep them up too much. We are a sleep deprived bunch in the US. This sounds quite normal.

Yes, he's pretty active. Runs around, plays a lot....If he's tired, I always let him sleep. I agree...we don't get enough sleep. Thanks, hopefully it is all normal

Hi despero! My son is 15 months and he is pretty much in the same routine as your son. Apart from his usual bedtime, i never put him down for a sleep. During the day he just gets really irratable and starts crying and shouting 'bot bot, bed!' lol. He then tries to walk up the stairs to his room. I often worry he's sleeping too much but if he wasn't tired, he wouldn't sleep. But when he is up he is always running around, we go for walks, to the park etc. I have a big family and have looked after a lot of children and i know i'm obviously biased but i can honestly say i have never known such a happy child. When he is awake he is always smiling. Never cries (unless he's tired!). I go to the shops or the park and i see other children his age throwing tantrums and hitting other kids and i am so proud to call my little one mine. I don't know if it's all the sleep he gets that makes him so happy but whatever it is is working well for me!

People are constantly telling me how things should be done but i always have and always will rely on my instinct. no one will ever know my child the way i do so if you think his sleeping is doing him good then let him be.

I once tried to keep my son awake during the day, to which he decided to lay down on the floor and sleep there! lol. So i guess there's no stopping them anyway!

It sounds healthy, and if I were you, I would enjoy the free time while he sleeps! It won't last forever!
