Heights, do you think really you have a fear of heights, and /or closed spaces...
CW
I've been stationed in England for the past 2 years. I recently went home(Kentucky) on leave for 3 1/2 weeks. I rented a car and had the worst case of road anxiety. I've kinda panicked before(hands go numb and I feel like I'm about to pass out) but this was horrible.
It was to the point that I crossed a bridge and seriously thought I was going to pass out while driving. It freaked me out and I had to pull over for a minute to calm myself down. The next time I went over one I had to call one of my friends to meet me to drive over for me.
The lorries in England are no match to the Semi's in the states and this too freaked me out. Everytime I would go to pass one, the numbness would start and the dizziness would come right after.
I don't know what's wrong with me. I know it's all pretty much in my head. I came back to England this past Sunday and am driving just fine over here, driving on the left side and everything. I don't know what to do![]()

Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.
Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
you must believe!
I don't think this has anything to do with fears of heights or closed spaces.
Country Girl, before you left the States for the military (and a huge salute to you!), how bad was your "driving anxiety" on a scale of 1 to 10? How often would you experience this in your civilian life, if at all? Did you ever experience this as a child? Maybe it started after a traumatic event while riding in a car?
In my absence from here (and CW hopefully remembers me), I've gone a bit a journey and learned many different things about the way the mind works. Something you can do to help discover the answers on your own (without paying big money to a shrink) is to talk to your subconscious mind, or ku in Hawaiian.
I know it sounds out there, but do this and let me know what happened.
1) Name your subconscious. Give it/her a name. She will respond. If she likes the name, she'll keep it. If not, she'll tell you what she wants to be called. Mine really likes to be called Ku.
2) Get in to a very comfortable position. I like to do this as a form of meditation.
3) Once comfortable, close your eyes and take in a deep breath and blow it out like a puff of smoke. This is to help calm you down and allow relaxation to begin.
4) Call forth your ku. Say it's name and tell her that you'd like to talk to her to get rid of this unresolved issue. She may respond verbally, but don't be surprised if she responds with images/visuals. The subconscious mind is a visual communicator.
5) If you do not understand what she is saying to your, or showing you, ask her to expand on that so you can better grasp what's being communicated. Once everything is resolved, or you just can't take it anymore, tell her that you'll come back in a little bit to continue this conversation.
If you're having problems reaching her, I'd be happy to help you for free via Skype. My contact information can be found on my profile page here.
