Acid? So that theory would also relate to lemon's only they don't taste as good...

I know if you rub lemon juice in your hair and your blonde, and go you out into the sun that works to lighten it, so that makes good sense.

    Never thought about it before.

There are always home made remodies that aren't full of chemicals, guess i will be trying that myself now.

I guess most of the natural teeth whitening remedies works, except that if use too often, can result in damage to the teeth.

I realize this topic is a little old, but I wanted to add something useful in:

"The process of brushing teeth with a baking soda and salt mixture has been around for a long time, and for good reason. It can actually be effective in removing stains, especially with the help of peroxide, making it a good substitute for chemical teethwhitener systems. Baking soda will also help to kill bacteria which causes plaque, and reduce acids which can harm tooth enamel.

Baking soda is safe to use and easily obtained. If you do use a baking soda mixture, brush gently around your gums so you don't irritate them."

My vote would be for baking soda.

    Default White Teeth

You need to put carbanide peroxide on your teeth.
That is what dentists use. Naturewhite works, or anything that has carbanide in it.

strawberries and bicarbanate sode. pulp of strawberry ..(no pips remove them they can damage teeth)

mix bicarbanate and strawberries (1 teaspoon of bicarb and 1 teaspoon strawberries) brush with this once a week. after you brush with this brush with toothpaste as your teeth need the floride.

I saw a difference straight away.

hi there! peroxide really helps whiten the teeth but it is too harsh for the teeth, eroding the enamel, when used in the long run..

anyway, i've been using this toothpaste...AP-24® Whitening Flouride Toothpaste from nuskin. its really great, and it might help u in ur concern.

A combination of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is said to be one of the best home remedies for whitening teeth. To Use: Add a few drops of peroxide to a teaspoon of baking soda to make a paste. Brush thoroughly with the paste and rinse afterwards with water. I have tried this several times, and I must say it is the cheapest and surest home remedy for whiter teeth.

Hydrogen pyroxide is poisonous!!! Inhaled or swallowed it can cause dammage to lungs and mucus membranes. Brussing teeth with it is asking for trouble. That said, using harsh chemicals like Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda can damage the enamel on the teeth. This makes teeth more susceptable to decay. Pleeeeeaase, just use normal tooth paste with floride. If you really need whiter teeth let a dentist do it properly. Tip: Darker lipstick will make your teeth look whiter.

Actually hydrogen peroxide is often ingested. They sell food grade versions specifically for that reason. It's suppose to help with health and increase oxygen in the body. It's also sometimes applied to something that will make it bubble and inhaled. The only real danger is that hydrogen peroxide sold for wound care contains a small amount of other things to stabilize it so it's suggested only to ingest food grade version. Other precaution is that the bubbling in your stomach will make you throw up if too much is taken, it's taken with the wrong things, or it's taken too close to a meal. Google it. You'll find hydrogen peroxide treatments are popular alternative medicine or home remedies and not toxic. However as mentioned it does have the potential to weaken tooth enamel if left on too long or used alot. I occasionally use it as a mouth wash and frequently apply it just to my tongue. Works far better than any tongue scraper or scrubbing with a toothbrush and paste and really goes a long way to eliminating bad breath and improving ability to taste.

Also not really related but peroxide is actually a really poor wound disinfectant. People get stuck on the bubbly action but in comparison to other common disinfectants peroxide cause the most damage to healthy cells leading to more scar tissue and kills the least bacteria. It's great for bubbling out debris but once the wound is clean of debris something like betadine should be used.
