Default possible strep b, but why does it go in this cycle?

So after a year and a half of horrible yellow discharge, near-constant irritation, and dozens of treatments for things I tested negative for to begin with, my doctor is almost positive I have strep b...she sent a culture in today and will let me know when she gets the results.

I already explained this to her, but she didn't offer an explanation as to why it happens like this: my symptoms flare up right after my period, and they're HORRIBLE for the first couple of weeks after my period ends. As it gets further along in my cycle, though, the symptoms die down and are almost non-existent right before my periods. Also, my discharge is really heavy at the beginning of the day but tapers off through the evening, and I hardly have any at night.

Why is this? Does it have something to do with my ph at different points of my cycle, or something to do with hormones? Has anyone else who's had a chronic infection noticed something like this?

I hope someone knows what your going through.

But, I have said this so many times... If the Doctor "can't offer an explanation" then she really doesn't know or is not interested in you, rather, just giving a diagnosis, like she's done her job and that sucks.

Go to another Doctor irrespective in my opinion and get a second well, opinion.

Hi, I have had this many times, yeah it sounds to me like its Strep B. It took me years to go to a doc to talk about as it would come and go one month to the next.

I am not sure myself, my gyno was useless and I am off to see a doctor who works with infectious diseases so hopefully he can tell me why I keep getting strep B as its not good.

Go to another doc, I know I will be if I get it back again and all this is over.

Eh, the test for strep came back negative. And I actually think it's the second one I've had now. All my vaginal flora came back perfectly normal, no yeast or bacteria...so now I'm back at square one. Have a follow up next week, so we'll see what she has to say.

    Hi
May I suggest what Chandellers Wish had recommended for you to do, you do and continue to investigate.

I am going through the same thing as you at the moment. My new gyno told me that Strep B is normal and forget about it. By the sounds of what you have you could have what I have just been told I get and its not Strep B infections. The name for this is Cyclical Thursh it is where you get thrush around the period and only then. I can be ok one month but then the next month it flares up.

I hope this helps and please go to a new gyno if they are not really interested in your case, it is important to get answers. When I was told the above, I felt a big weight lifted from my shoulders.

Hey Jayci, thanks for the response. Actually, I tested negative for strep B and the culture they sent off that day came back showing perfectly normal vaginal flora--no yeast, no bacteria, everything in perfect balance.

I saw a more "specialized" doctor last week who took a look and says it's not infection-related at all because everything in my vagina looks to be absolutely normal and healthy, and that she thinks it's something with the skin inside my vagina causing my symptoms. So I'm going in for a colposcopy/biopsy this week and hopefully that will give us a better idea!

I had the same result from the specialised doctor I saw and by the look of what he saw in the tests he ran, he mentioned for me to see a doctor that deals with vulvovaginal disorders and BV.

Good Luck and I hope that you find your answers soon
